Been discussing this on another forum.

Yes the lorry was in the wrong BUT the middle lane driver had plenty of time to move over. He saw the lorry. He was selfish, inconsiderate and obviously wasn't paying attention. Indirectly, he was driving dangerously.

I somehow feel his comments are a bit exaggerated

he said he was about to move over when the lorry driver began to "intimidate" him.

and

an ambulance took him to hospital with neck and shoulder pain

Not condoning the lorry driver, but what was the car driver doing in the middle lane? Hmmm? Obstructing the road?

My thoughts exactly.

I can't make out the speed he was doing, but I know I sometimes stay in the second lane longer than I would if all those who think that the speed on the motorway is a minimum of 75mph would consider allowing cars doing the speed limit in the inside lane out to overtake.

From the video, it appeared that he was still in the process of overtaking a lorry in the inside lane. However, he was driving so slowly in the middle lane that the lorry on the inside wasn't dropping away, so if he had pulled in he would have been cutting it a little fine. Basically, he was dawdling on the overtake and pootling along in the middle lane as a result (bad), so the second lorry overtook in the outside lane, cut him up and hit him (worse). Both are at fault, but one rather more seriously than the other.

Whilst the headline is about the response time of the police, and the lorry driver clearly has some explaining to do, the cynic in me thinks the driver of the car might just be milking this for all it's worth. Who in their right mind would not have pulled over as soon as the lorry started to re-enter the middle lane? The car driver appears to be "aiming" for a glancing blow. And there are clearly flashing amber lights reflected off the front and the back of the lorry in that footage - was the car driving with hazard lights on? It appears so to me.

According to the BBC report the car driver "runs a dashcam company"; I'll wager this was all some kind of setup.

Most motorways are policed by Traffic safety officers (if at all). I think Lancashire / Liverpool / Manchester / Cumbria have 3 patrol cars out between them. Given the Torie cuts now and in the future, I fully expect my daily commute to resemble out-takes from Mad Max in the not too distant future.

Just an FYI, it's now 60 MPH

EU Regulations say HGVs are limited to 90km/hr (~56mph) so as most end up driving on the contient at some time in their lives, they are limited to this despite the UK speed limit being higher.

As I see it, at the very start of the footage the car driver is far enough in front to have pulled over before the lorry driver starts flashing him.

but a lot are limited to 100kph (approx 52 iirc) i assume as its "close enough" uk trucks dont get it altered and it would leave them illegal in europe i assume

Wait, lorries aren't allowed in the outside lane anyway, so even if the driver was dawdling (still illegal) the overtake would have been a much bigger no no?

Agreed, though he's going so slowly that the lorry on the inside is actually catching him again. He could have pulled in though. The lorry shouldn't have been overtaking in the outside lane at all, either. Both drivers were driving badly - the lorry driver massively more so.

The driver was being a numpty. He could easily have moved over out of the way once it was clear the lorry was cutting in, and he could easily have moved out of the way before that when he was being flashed (better to have that sort of idiot in front of you where you can account for them than behind you where they're a danger).

But none of that excuses the lorry driver deliberately trying to cause an accident and injure/kill the other driver out of some petty sense of revenge or "teaching him a lesson".

I think the lorry driver will get done for careless driving and maybe even the middle lane hogger could get done for driving without due care and attention.

I've had it before though, I was in the outside lane having just overtook cars in the middle, wanting to go back to the inside lane and there was some silly old bugger in a Quashqai doing about 63 in the outside lane, with both inside lanes empty, so I flash him a few times, after about 30 seconds of rage flashing (I didn't get up his backside BTW, that's stupid and I don't own a BMW), he moves to the middle, gives me some lovely facial expressions, polite hand gestures, then I move back to the inside lane, where it is clear for a few miles and the minute I do that, he moves straight back to the outside lane, becoming a dot in my mirror.

People need to be educated on the roads, failing that, shot. I've also been crashed into on a roundabout, indicating and everything all because the guy "didn't think I was going that way". People. Ugh.

You're right, they aren't and he has broken the law whilst overtaking. I am a coach driver as well as an IT Technician and it is illegal for a speed restricted vehicle to use the outside lane.

You are probably correct. Check the date of the cam footage - 11/11/2015. Why has it taken a month to come to light? I suspect it was allow Stockdale time to edit the footage into a commercial to put on his website. BYW, his website has an official sounding title, the use of which is very dodgy.

To quote from the BBC "Footage shows the lorry apparently bashing his car as it passed at about 20:40 GMT, and repeating the action 14 minutes later." Once the lorry had gotten past and sped off at 62mph, how did Stockdale then catch up with him 15 minutes later? I suspect because Stockdale wanted to stir more trouble, and more publicity.

i preume with an excemption for collision avoidance. Because of the way its edited it could quite easily be the car driver suddenly slowed down and the overtaking lorry had to go to lane 3 or ram into the back of the car

This guy's got form! Here's another of his videos showing a near miss on a roundabout - I saw the arrows a long time before he seems to react.

Particularly as (despite knowing the roundabout) he appears to be in the wrong lane for the exit at one stage.
