XBone or PS4...

Hey guys,

 

So as Christmas is slowly approaching, even as someone who doesn't really partake in the whole festive mess... I like to use it as an excuse to buy myself something that I don't really need. This year I'm picking up a console. However, I can't decide between the Xbox One and the Playstation 4.

 

This is where you beautiful, intelligent folks come in... Which do I buy, and why?

depends what games you want. Hardware wise there isn't much in it the ps4 is a bit faster. Software wise ive not seen a single ps4 exclusive I personally want with the possible exception of until dawn. whereas halo/forza/forza horizons are xbox only

I'm going PS4 this time for Christmas I have the Original Xbox and an Xbox 360 , the main game I want it for hitman world of assignation has extra content on the ps4, plus when Microsoft came on stage and announced the Xbox one with tv, tv, tv, tv, tv, tv, tv, tv, tv it kind of put me off the Xbox as it felt like they don't get why I get a games console, hint, it's not to watch tv.

It all depends on your wants, if you want to play online with friends then you need to go with the system that friends have bought. if you are more an offline player then you'll need to start looking at platform exclusive and decide from there.

 

I chose XbOne because that's what I have and not once have I wished I'd bought a PS4.

Xbox1 all the way for me. Halo5 kept me loyal, plus Forza is brilliant. Not to mention the Xb1 controller is still the best there is by some distance

ps controllers have always been awful. If you havnt try the elite controller its MUCH better than the standard one though it costs far too much lol

 

as to pc sure if you don't mind fiddling though tbh consoles arnt much better, insert disk, install disk, patch, play few weeks later patch again

I agree with consoles being convenient. That's why I've got one

 

However in previous gen consoles I've always been wowed by how pretty things are.

 

Not so much this time though. The framerate/resolution/level of detail comprpomise is a bit annoying, (though thye seem to have got it just about right with Halo 5), and there's nothing yet that has truly taken my breath away.

 

Certainly nothing like loading TES:Oblivion for the first time on the 360 and getting out of the sewers into the bright of day for the very first time. That was truly brilliant!

Oh, I should add the reason for getting a console is purely because I'm finding that I have no more reason to dump cash into my PC due to the fact that I've got a "Pretty decent" rig as of now.

 

I'm probably going to end up with both an XBone and a PS4... but it's just deciding which one first.

if you already have a pc a lot of aaa titles come out on pc anyway m ight be worth looking at a wiiu the games on that don't and are often very different to xb/psx ones gives you more variety. It all comes down to what games you want to play

I went with a xbone (thanks amazon for tempting me with cheap deals) purely for destiny as a few friends play it. I've no idea what other games are around other than the usual cod/halo/driving game x.

AND you can share-play (as in get invited to a game and play it without owning it - as if you were sat on their sofa with controller 2).

 

Personally - I'd say PS4, but that's because I have one.

 

Sensibly - is there anyone you're likely to play alongside a lot? What have they all got?

I don't really know anyone who plays console anymore. So I'm safe in that regard... I think currently I'm going to just get both at this point. I only want a console for Destiny really. PS4 looks nicer... but the thumbsticks are in the wrong place on the controllers.

It's not just you.

 

I've always gone PS because I don't have any friends who have consoles and Sony have more exclusives that I would like to play. In terms of which is "better", I don't think there's much difference.

PS4, just for Rocket League (in all seriousness, it's an amazing game, currently PS4 & PC only but devs have promised other platforms so XB1 very likely in future)

 

I have a PS4 and love it, but then I'm not "in to" any of the XB exclusives apart from Tomb Raider, but that's only a timed exclusive and I'm patient.

 

The DualShock can be significantly improved by swapping the thumb sticks for XB1 thumb sticks, but it's still not as good as the XB1 pad unfortunately, that's it's only let down for me.

Remember there's the ability to stream to any Windows 10 machine from your Xbox One. It means you can have one XBONE in the house and just buy a couple dirt cheap TV Windows 10 Sticks and stream all your games to it. It renders all graphics on the XBONE so you don't need a powerful PC either.

as long as you don't need 0 lag its fine I wouldn't recommend playing halo that way but the stuff ive tried has worked fine)

I've not had any problems doing that with the Vita - but then again, my PS4 is on a wired connection.

Honestly as of right now, the only thing separating the two - are the controllers.

 

I don't like buying third party addons to consoles. But I can't find a Sony controller that has the thumb stick in the right place.

it's getting there but it's not quite there IMO, I had it steaming from my xbone to my gaming pc and multiplayer FPS games were playable but you'll never finish near the top of the leader board because of the latency but Forza horizon was fine. Edited November 26, 2015 by GuyJD

If its an option then go for both. My console of choice is XB1, but also pick up PS4 exclusives on that platform. Have a PC capable but with working with PC's all day, didn't want to sit up in the home office when at home when I can chill out on the lazy boys in front of big TV and game
