What do you display on your digital signage?

So we have notifications about clubs and messages in one section. Another section which has photos from recent school events and then there is a third section.

 

I've used it for a variety of things, most recently some maths mnemonics - other times "inspirational quotes".

 

Does anyone have any ideas of something interesting / useful which can go in there? We use Xibo so these are mainly made in Powerpoint.

We have the below, a timetable with club times and trip dates etc. Also have the schools twitter feed auto updating. Then a BBC news RSS feed and a flash clock.

Powerpoints.

 

They wanted the screens for useful stuff and even news 24. I set them up a template with ticker, tv, clock, power point etc...

 

It's not used at all like that.

 

Such a waste of money.

Notices, CBBC Newsround RSS feed, time, date, images of trips etc, important messages.

 

Mostly just PowerPoint slides where I've set up a macro to save as JPGs of a specific size on the Xibo server. I've then set one media item in the layout to be a web page, navigating to the specific file name (http://xiboserveraddress/exportedslide.jpg) and hey presto, it's displayed.

 

Running a macro is easy enough for most of our staff to manage, whereas some would struggle logging into the Xibo interface and changing media that way.

 

I mostly designed this with help from posts found on edugeek. There's lots of valuable information here.

 

Occasionally if I'm in the right mood, I will add animations and things to a PowerPoint and export it as a video to upload to Xibo. I've always found our Xibo clients are flakey, at best, running PowerPoints- so have decided to bypass directly running PowerPoints on the clients altogether.

Very little. Yet when I suggest that we shouldn't be using them anymore because they're running XP embedded people react as if the school would grind to halt without them.

 

The only regular thing that goes up is weekly attendance figures for each house as it's a competition of sorts, and currently we also have some nice anxiety-inducing graphics reminding our Y11s that there are only 27 weeks until exams.

School welcome powerpoint,

school twitter feed,

house points and merit chart - both are RSS feeds from an internal website that the office updates,

time/date bug in the corner,

upcoming events - web page of the school calendar plus individual event pages that are just images,

work of the week - sometimes this is just a picture of a document, sometimes it's a video,

thought for the day,

theme for the week - this is usally tied to assembly topics,

sometimes letters to parents.

 

All of this is achieved with Xibo

Out of interest, anybody got any good tips of showing a calendar on Xibo? We've got a sports hall & astro booking system (EzFacility) and you can export the bookings to a calendar so I thought that would be useful to put on the screen so parents/clubs etc could see what's on when.

The standard displays for both Google or Outlook look a bit clunky... anybody of of a good skin or a system to display the information so it's easier to read?

We've been putting up with the default google calendar view until recently - our new website has a calendar feature which works much better - it's a school jotter site.

I get a lot of "Xibo error: Breakpoint Reached" errors if the powerpoints repeat too, or too many powerpoints are assigned to a campaign, so the signage reboots at midday.

 

I'm trying to wean the content creators off powerpoint by having them make individual slides or videos of the powerpoint, but it's a slow process.

 

I've got one lady in the office who is a bit of a whizz with the layout designer so I don't get too involved in that side of it now.
