I've been asked to look into swipe card entry into one of our buildings but I've got no experience of who makes such systems or who can supply/install.

What sort of things do I need to lookout for? Can anyone recommend any companies?

Cheers. :)

Used SALTO before full range of solutions for doors, barriers, lifts etc... wireless and wired ip connected units, battery handles, maglocks etc...

Having had a look lately I would also advocate Paxton. Combined with Biostore for SIMS integration means it is easily extendible to print release systems (papercut) and cashless catering.

We use Paxton and Net2. I'm going to be a bit less gushing and say s'alright I guess. Direct Tech support is good but we have some odd issues and the IP units we have had have been pseudo-IP, in that they are serial controlled and connected to an IP controller. Some of our issues may be down to our installer though.

We were looking at Netgenium that looked really exciting, for what it could do and future expansion, but as ever it came down to cost and cheapest quote won. Can't remember exactly but the higher price was down to something like the central controller being a chunk of change but after that everything was cheaper. Sadly lack of vision and forward thinking.

ADT installed and maintain our access control system. They use Kantech gear. ADT themselves are quite expensive but they are somewhat reliable. Everything needed to fob-protect a door is usually over £1000 for power supply, interface, maglock, fob reader etc.

Did a lot of research on this two years ago.

We're with Tensor currently, though I'd be leaving them if we expanded our usage any more.

Although I liked Paxton, SALTO was the winner of my research and I'd push for it if we moved.

There are lots of recommendations for Paxton, was this forced upon you by your LEA's or did you actively decide that was the best system?

Thanks for the recommendations so far, I'll get some info from the companies and report back.

Our last Secuirty guys installing it. And it worked. They did mess the wiring up and we are slowly sorting it. (box by box) But it just works!

We are switching to paxton from Impro because it has better integration with SIMS via biostore.

They were the best of the bunch that we looked at.

Paxton system was installed by our same Security company that do our Intruder, Fire and CCTV systems.

Chosen as it was the system most supported by local security firms when we first moved to RFID stuff back in the day (a good 8 years ago now!). We were LEA at the time, but there was no input from the LEA on it as far as I know.
