Hi Guys,

Hope everyone had a productive summer holiday!

I am riddled with this error in ICT Suites at the moment...even for our new Year 7's who have never logged in before.

'The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded'

Their profile doesn't exist in the registry or in the local profile lists....any ideas?

I have seen this before and sometimes deleting the ntuser.dat (or all of the profile contents) and replace it with a know working one from another student - we have a test one we use. It does depend on what type of profile you use of course

We don't use roaming profiles for students. Just a local profile with redirection policies.

I reformatted around 60 PC's yesterday which fixed those workstations but still have a large amount refusing random logons.

There are errors in event viewer relating to the windows profile service and copying A to B - neither of which path exists! Then it says access denied.

So strange, was fine before the summer!

Also removing a local profile from computer properties > advanced > advanced system settings > user profiles results in this error coming up for that user on that machine there after even if they were OK before

Currently having the same issue with one of our teachers. We gave them a new pc but when they go to log on first time it gives them a temp profile.

There is no previous profile to .bak or whatever

Yep new year 7's getting the same error and of course they have never logged in before.

Cant see anything on a GPO relating to logon's / profiles either and the fact it works if you reformat makes me think its 100% workstation related.

Didn't do anything to those machines over the summer either...odd!

Lack of permissions in profile folders can cause this error. There will be clues in the event viewer on affected machines.

We found this issue over the summer holiday, initially I put it down to our SCCM build process. You can easily fix it with this,

icacls c:\users\default /T /Q /C /Reset

We have now got it running as start up script through group policy. We haven't seen the issue since.

Interesting. We haven't had the issue with pupils, just the one teacher. Checked his profile folder and it was over 10gb. Shaved it down to 4gb (onedrive data). Worked after a few minutes of waiting. Will be asking him to change his directory on onedrive to something local.

Just curious; in this scenario, what would happen if you were to disable temporary profiles through GPO.

check that the IEAK hasnt left an .SQM file in the temporary internet folder in the default profile as a new user wont have permissions to this file and will cause the login to fail as it tries to create the users profile
