Just finished Severance on Apple TV+, and I can't wait for the second season as it leaves you on one hell of a cliffhanger.

It's worth just getting an Apple TV+ subscription for a month to binge this. It's orginal, has a great cast and mystery upon mystery. Perfect!

With the cornucopia of high quality shows available, does anyone else find themselves watching a trailer and thinking "I'd watch that if it was a 2 hour movie, but I haven't got the spare time to devote 10+ hours to a season of that as a show"?

I think I've heard just the opposite from my OH actually...

 

Watch Blade Runner 2049 (2h 43m) or Dune (2h 35m) with me? No chance....

 

Binge watch most of a season of Bridgerton in one day? Oh well it's a lazy Sunday... why not... where's my blanket and snacks...?

I think we've all watched a few films that could have done with being expanded into a series (especially where you can tell they've skipped massive parts of the plot/character development to fit it in to a movie) and a few series with episodes where nothing really seems to happen (and the plot gets ridiculous, or completely pointless things happen because they need to stretch it out to fill out the season) and it could have all been condensed into a film.

 

Watching 'Outer Range' on Amazon Prime at the moment and although the suspense is building and I'm intrigued to find out what is going on, it's a bit slow and there's a lot of filler so it probably could've (should've) been a movie...

Finished Moon Knight yesterday.. alot of positive reviews online... I thought it was a bit average

That was one of the ones I'd watch a movie of. "The 7 Lives of Lea" on Netflix is another.

Moon Knight seems very good after the first episode and Picard is getting better with each week... especially when Picard isnt in it.

 

Disappointed with Moon Knight if I'm honest... Watchable, but felt a little too 'teen' for me in some parts (with occasional blood splatters) and a 'Dick Van Dyke' type of feeling in others (I really was expecting a 'cor blimey guvner' at some points) and Ethan Hawke not even remotely menacing, I think I was looking for something darker all round...

 

Picard has taken an unexpected turn recently and I'm interested to see how it turns out considering the implications! But yes, Picard himself has passed his prime (if he ever had one /controversial) and just seems to stand about getting in the way and looking off into the distance whilst reminiscing mostly.... having said that he plays a doddery old man very well... another series that seems to have jeopardy for its own sake to fill out the episode.

Now there's no need to be beholden to USA network tv schedules shows can be 8 episodes long instead of 13/26, and can run for just 1 season if they want to. 6 is apparently pushing it a bit due to amortised costs

Agree about Picard... I feel a bit sorry for Patrick as he looks lost half the time.

 

I also think they are ruining the legacy of the Borg... although it is an interesting direction.... can't warm to any of the other characters though especially the cigar smoking walking cliche.

Yeah, Patrick Stewart didn't seem so... old last season. Maybe he's not been well, hence the S2+S2 back-to-back and then out plan?

 

I quite like the guy who also played Aramis, though they seem to have dropped wherever they were going with all those holo-clones (or whatever they were).

I wasn't a fan of the holographic Rios, but would totally watch more of him as captain of the Stargazer.

If you like the Rios actor, check out Salvation, where he plays a tech billionaire trying to save the world from a meteor impact.

Definitely. I'm cancelling my Netflix subscription this month. The price rise, coupled with the fact I just don't have time to watch everything means we're not getting good value anymore.

I have just set up our new broadband and phone deal for the new house (yes, the move is almost complete!) I specifically excluded any TV provision, as I will be using Freeview/FreeSat/Firestick only (5Foot2 has Amazon Prime membership)

 

Previously we had a 'Large' media package from Virgin but we found that we weren't getting value from it and (it seemed like) every time a bill came it the charges went up!

Mme LeMarchand had (foolishly) given up on Cobra Kai so I was a bit behind. As she was away last night I managed to binge the second half of Season 4, which more than made up for the season's predictable start with some genuine surprises. Can't wait for Season 5.

Just finished Ozark (Netflix) and honestly, I thought they nailed it as a final season. I know a few people found the ending unsatisfying, but I thought it was entirely in-keeping with the promises it's been making since the start, and whilst it does end on a cut to black, it is far less ambiguous than Sopranos, or even Inception. The writing and the performances were top-notch throughout, and they've ended it after 4 seasons, before it got too absurd and implausible. One of the best pieces of television of the last few years--similar to Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul but with its own identity, and damn well near as well-delivered as those two.

I've just finished Halo and was suitably impressed.

 

For a video game adaption, they leant heavily into the expanded lore of the books and made a good fist of adapting things. I have no issues with the changes they made. It made it easier to tell the same story.

I reckon it could have done with one more episode as EP9 felt a little rushed (I know it was cut from 10 to 9 due to covid).

But it looked smart, by and large. There were a one or two moments where the CGI movement looked wooden, but this is TV afterall, it's rarely perfect.

 

Jen Taylor once again excelled as Cortana. They used her voice in smart ways. When she was speaking directly to John it felt just like those moments in the games without feeling clunky at all.

 

Can't wait for season 2.

 

I started Obi-Wan last night. Have only watched the first episode, but I'm impressed. Seeing in detail some places that were only glimpsed previously was nice. And the casting for a 10-year old Leia is magnificent!

After 4 years of chewing through Deep Space 9 on our holiday lunchbreaks, we're about to finish the final season today, just before the long bank holiday and on my final holiday day in school. The number 1 job on our list for this half-term was "get to the end of DS9": we've had to take an extended lunchbreak to get two episodes in each day, but my goodness, what a series. Still some of the finest TV writing there's been, honestly, and gets a depth and gravitas that the other Treks didn't get to without the long-term, long-form plot that DS9 had. It's the first time I've properly watched it through in order and it is my favourite Trek now.

 

Finished Moon Knight recently, thought it was one of the better ones; more interesting than F+WS, with some great imagery. Just starting up Stranger Things 4, which is leaning even harder into horror now, and is apparently taking its cues from Nightmare on Elm Street this season. And really need to get to Better Call Saul; then there's Obi-Wan, and I've still not caught Boba Fett...

DS9 has been my favourite Star Trek since I first saw it and nothing I've seen since has changed my view on that. Not to say that I haven't like subsequent Star Trek series, but DS9 is still the gold standard for Star Trek in my view.

 

Babylon 5 is better though

Me too. After season three I was concerned it was going a bit off track, but season four is epic! Love the way it is filmed like 80's horror movies, but it's a nice and tight package, even with the long episode run times. It's like having a lot of great little movies to watch.

Completely agree, with the cast of characters from previous seasons, and the introduction of new ones (who are excellent!) in this season, I was worried it was going to get bloated, but they've managed to keep it well paced. Wish we could binge it, but having to ration to one episode a night!
