Your a brave man. :) I will install it on my workstation. I dont think i will be letting others use it yet.

There is a lot to do before general release. Build images, test for compatibility, sort drivers for OSD, sort profile, sort group policies. We will be sending it out to a couple of machines in each work room and some more technical staff first.

Had a lot planned but all on hold now as I've been told I'm term time only and any OT needs prior management sanction. Fed up with banging my head on the wall on that one so it will be interesting to see what awaits the school at the start of the new term!

Dear Mods. Handy if this thread were Behind The Red Door as we are in very litigious times and disciplinary system seem to be well in favour :D

I don't have Windows 10 on the list for this year. Maybe next!

My list:

- Decommission 1 IT room (33 computers) and redistribute.

- 24 new PCs to replace and redistribute

- 10 new Macs to replace and redistribute

- New CCTV system to install

- ESX 5.5 to 6

- 2 virtual hosts to upgrade

- Decommission Apple XServe and commission new Mac Mini to run profile manager to manage the existing Macs.

Make sure you get it in writing that you were told not to do it.

I had a similar situation at my old job, so glad I had it on email I was told not to work in the summer.

Finish Dead Space 2 [currently at Chapter 10], start and finish Dead Space 3, finish a bunch of other games I have.

In short... I plan to do precisely :censored: all.

...Possibly try to find a new job, if I have time.

Quiet one this summer...

We've already had done....

Running 17 new fiber's and replacement of 17 network cabs with some re-organising of the network through the installation of new network points

Tidy out the server room and all other network cabs by removing old cables that are no longer used (it is frightening how much cable I've pulled out in the last couple of months!)

Still to do....

Replace all switches (approximately 30 new switches being installed), with Vlan's being configured to separate out the network.

93 new PC's to install

Move round lots of other PC's (about 6 IT Suites being moved around)

All PC's in school to be reimaged

Office 2013

Ruckus wireless being installed (points have started to be installed)

I'm sure there is more to do that I've forgotten.

17 Cabs! We only have 2!

17 Cabs! We only have 2!

Lol, yeh....that actually is reducing it as well by 2/3 switch locations. I suppose on a technicality we only currently have about 12 cabs (some of our switches are literally screwed to the wall), but these are being replaced with proper cabs :-) these 17 cabs also doesn't include our main comms room or our server room!

Server builds, server builds and more server builds. Thought it was going to be a quiet one this summer but seems our company have a lot of installs to do a various primary schools.

Sadly it's not an option for us as we have 6 separate buildings :-(

I agree with that. We have another build that has a cab. But we have minimized it as much as possible.

Bits and bobs.

Installing a new server and switch at the infant school we support. Also sticking in two new IWBs.

I'm going to try and sync AD and 365, having used the latter for three years. No idea if this is possible without bricking the accounts and starting again, but I'll give it a go.

Moving to x64 across our curriculum machines.

Rolling out Chrome to curriculum clients.

Sorting out our Pupil Wifi SSID to allow better reporting of use. The addresses Meraki assigns are causing issues currently.

Prepping 20 Win 8 tablets our SEN department have purchased.

Sorting out RemoteApp to allow students to access certain programs from home through HAP

New POE switch going into one of our main cabs

Environment monitor going into the server room

The rest is the usual: server maintenance, updates, staff/student leavers/starters, office moves, and admin stuff.

Posted (edited)

- Contractors are recabling the entire school to hide ghastly trunking everywhere, pull everything into our first server room, and clean up a comms cab

- Introduce a couple more VLANs and enable routing now we have a core switch

- Double up on APs at reduced power

- Make sure BT don't screw up our leased line install (going from the LA' 6Mbps bonded DSL to 30Mbps uncontended fibre! Awww yissss)

It'll be like having a whole new physical network! Then once that's done...

- Win 10 deployment across existing and new batches of netbooks

- Reimage ~20 desktop PCs

- Deploy DirectAccess to staff

- DR testing

- Find out why Meraki doesn't work through our damn Sophos UTM :(

- Reconfig our iPad estate

- Fix AD/O365 sync problems we have

- Sort out my shiny new HyperV host for some redundancy

replaced all the storage, all the servers (physically) and my file server VM during term time....because i like to live dangerously (or rather because virtualisation is so freaking awesome in allowing me to do it all live!) soooo i've got a pretty quiet summer.

Most of our summer work is office reorganising

Sixth form is having a bit of renovations done

Generally lots of little bits of tidying, fine tuning or moving equipment around.

Then i'll no doubt spent the last week or two beginning my journey into testing windows 10 ready for deployment next summer.

I could say it's the quietest summer I'll have had since i've been there, but in actual fact on the 31st my best mate flys over from louisiana, come the 7th I'll be getting married and on the 21st I'm off on a honeymoon to Paris ...so it's going to be a busy one for me :D

*looks round for his invite*

I've done one our cabinets now. Just need switchs installed but I need a electrician to change the fused spur to the new power strip.

Also need the firbe man to rejoin the splice as I had the fibre (I say me cut it... I got our network cabling guys to do it.)

All the fibre runs are installed. Just waiting for the firbe man to install and test.

It took 2 hours to get the new cabinet up due to horrible walls that dosnt look like it would take the weight of the new cabinet

The next cabinet should be alot easier to swap as there no fibre spur. (He hopes)

I'm also on hoilday next week :)

Swapped the last cabinet in our dt rooms. Took the cabinet off the wall and one of the old cables snapped... (over tighten cable tie make it catch)

Replaced one wire that was going the deputy head office with 4 new wires.

Also ran new wires across the dt room in the beams. (Thanks to our caretaker who went up the ladder)

All the fibre runs are done and connected. Just need some traffic going though them.

Replace 6 projectors (2 ceiling, 4 wall mount) - already done

Sort out WIFI and filtering, sort out new DC and sort out the storage

Fit a few PC's, new MFD's are coming too so there's papercut to sort out

All the usual IT admin stuff

And Friday I was helping out the caretakers in F&N, it's getting refit and I've been doing the plastering for them.... (I also replaced all network cabling / data points)

I'm sure there's other stuff to be done but I've still got 15 days holidays to take before September...
