I went with GAP insurance on the lease to the original invoice value of the car for the length of the lease, which is in the event of theft or accident. That's on a range rover sport, and it was cheaper than getting a tracker - don't get me wrong, I'd rather it didn't get nicked but if it does the car gets replaced with one of the same original value, or I get the lease settled and the difference in my pocket to put a desposit on another - so I'd rather that than get a tracker and get back a car which was either damaged being stolen, and I'll always know as the car that was stolen, or with the keys being stolen, back at the house where they know where it is and where the keys are if someone wants another go.

Oaktech Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 I guess it all depends on how important the vehicle is. I don't mean important to you, I mean in the grand scheme of vehicles. If it's just a fairly standard modern car, then I would be satisfied with good factory fitted security. I wouldn't be bothering with fancy alarms or immobilisers as they can be an absolute pig if an issue occurs with them and it is virtually impossible to have them removed because that it half the point in the first place. If the car is exotica, or more importantly *old* exotica then I would cut out the middle man, forget about alarms and immobilisers and just get a tracker fitted. The tracker has saved my friend's dad's Ferarri 308 GTS TWICE! when an expensive thatcham alarm didn't.
NB9457 Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Cheapest method on an old car is to fit a kill switch on the ignition wiring, obviously further down the harness, then hide a switch somewhere. Cheap and very effective.
