Don't worry this isn't going to be another addition to the imigration debate :)

I got an email from the site team saying that the school will be only open for 5 days over the holidays. Well there goes my plan of works.

Still, I suppose that's better than last year's two week lock-out

It means I'm going to have be less ambitious about what I can do before term starts, probably SIMS and a few rebuilds.

I know we all meant to aim for a better work/life balance but I would like some say in the matter

We've just had a battle to get the time over christmas off! You must be extreemly dedecated to your job and hats off to you. I enjoy my job, but there are limits and Christmas is the one time I really don't want to be at work! From this Friday I've got round to the 2nd January off which I'm really looking forward to!

Still if there's work to be done, then needs must I suppose.

Two weeks off yippee and that wasn't easy to get - the school has got this stupido policy that there must be an IT Tech on site all the time. Who's gonna need technical support over the xmas break when the place is closed you muppets?! Saying that, the caretaker told me that one year they had a teacher come in on Boxing Day 'to pick up work'.........d'oh!

I always leave my big projects for the summer break, that's probably why i'm so behind

If I got paid double time overtime then i'd come in as it is the financial rewards don't exist....work-life-balance to me means work to have enough money to have a life and a positive bank balance

see what i did there

I a keyholder! I'm always open up in the morning at just before 6:30. I find I can get shed-loads done before the mob arrive. Then I get away at 15:30. I find being able to go in as and when is great.

I am to, it makes things so much easier, I can just go in when I want and get stuff done.

I briefly had a master key but for some reason it was taken back with claims of 'FMSIS don't allow staff to have master keys, even the deputy head doesn't have one'.

I pointed out that it is a major slap in the face to give it out, then as much as say 'we don't trust you, give it back'.

The teachers + kids are off this arvo.

We techs get Xmas + Boxing day off, then 31st and New Years Day.

However they make us use up one of our annual leave days for the 31st. How rude...

I finish today, move to a new job in January so I get 2 weeks off, up to the 7th.

At my old school for the last 3 years, we usually got Xmas off because the school was shut. Still, and even though I would take Xmas off anyways, we are forced to take it off because the school is shut for the whole 2 weeks.

This costs us a precious 7 days holiday which I think is outragious. Given the option, I would use the 7 days happily to take Xmas off, but because the option is not mine I feel that I shouldn't lose holidays for it.

The school is shut but I am forces to take my hols too... bummer. I would rather take 7 days another time, but whatever!

Roll on the next few hours.... leaving at 1:30pm

@ Joanne

Under most council policies they can't force you to take leave, if you're available for work then they have to provide somewhere for you to work.

Last year i took a load of documentation home rather then have to come in for two days as i don't have a key sp someone would have to let me in.

Apparently no one wanted too :-)
