korifugi Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Deadpool was half off over the weekend, so I picked it up. While the combat for this gets very samey - it's worth buying for the cutscenes alone (with some of the Cable ones being pure genius)
GuyJD Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 I've been playing a lot of Mad Max recently, I'd say I'm about 8 hours in and it's starting to feel a bit repetitive. I'm thinking about getting Elite Dangerous as it's on Special on Steam today.
GuyJD Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I had a go of Elite Dangerous last night and I'm completely confused, maybe it's because I was tired but it was just a huge mess of controls to learn.
LeMarchand Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Mme LeMarchand is away looking after her mother at the moment, so have been playing "The Last of Us". Was freaked out on Sunday when, while I was sneaking around a dark building trying to avoid Clickers the door to the entrance hall creaked open... the cat had decided to give me a scare by somehow pulling it towards herself. Just before bed last night got to the bit where (mild spoilers) you're hanging upside down trying to fend off waves of assorted nasties. Had to have a nice cup of cocoa to calm down after that!
ICTDirect_Dave Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I had a go of Elite Dangerous last night and I'm completely confused, maybe it's because I was tired but it was just a huge mess of controls to learn. Do you have a joystick/gamepad or are you trying to play using keyboard & mouse? It's next to impossible without some form of controller. You don't need to master all of the controls, just enough to allow you to interact with the environment about you. My hotas stick handles movement, thrust, weapon groups, hardpoint deployment and firing, power management and basic targeting (target ship in front, target hostile ship, cycle all ships). For anything else there's a keyboard shortcut. It will take a while, since it spits you out into space with little or no help, but that's the joy of it. Have you gone through some of the tutorials? I'd do the launching and docking lessons and then the intra-system travel and hyperspace options. You can learn about combat the hard way Stick with it though, it's a very rewarding game

I'd do the launching and docking lessons and then the intra-system travel and hyperspace options. You can learn about combat the hard way Stick with it though, it's a very rewarding game I went through the tutorials last night, the docking one had me trying for ages and plenty of mad dashes for the exit of the space station before it blew me to pieces because I was taking so long landing on the pad, I didn't realise you had to be facing forward for it to dock you. I'm sure I will get the hang of it eventually, like I said I was tired last night and probably missed plenty of instructions because I just found myself floating around thinking what do I need to do now.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Yeah docking still gets me from time to time. I occasionally take off and boost out only to find I'm not straight enough, it's very embarassing when you plow into the wall just above the letterbox! Remembering landing gear and getting yourself the right way around take a while too. It's even trickier at the outpost stations when the pads are on the outside!
localzuk Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 (edited) I love docking. I go in at full speed, trigger landing gear when going through the portal (or at random on the outdoor ones), and then just take all throttle off when I'm heading towards crashing. Not crashed since tutorials now. Only time I come unstuck is when I don't notice the ships coming the other way and slightly slam into them... Its fun watching people pinball around the station though! Free light show! I'm *really* looking forward to getting Oculus Rift or HTC Vive in the new year. Will be amazing to see the universe so immersively. Edited September 29, 2015 by localzuk

Will be amazing to see the universe so immersively.Me too, I think I'm going to be an instant adopter, I like the look of the Vive but if you have to always have it set up in an open space with the 'lighthouse's' then that will sway me more to the Rift
LeMarchand Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 IIRC when I played Elite on the speccy I never got very far because I couldn't dock. So it sounds like the new version is carrying on the tradition!
ICTDirect_Dave Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 It's not THAT hard, well not once you get used to it. thye still offer the docking computer for those who can't handle it too
Arreks Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 When you start playing seriously, docking is the least of your worries I wish I played it more, I just can't be bothered to grind..
RageSto Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Only thing holding me back from ED right now is that Horizons isn't out yet. I don't want to spend $105 on the base game + expansion when I can just wait until ED:H is released and grab it all for $60. Really terrible price plan IMO.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Can't you just preorder horizons and get access to all current ED content? That was my understanding of it.
RageSto Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Nope (from frontier_support on reddit.com/r/elitedangerous): If your friend has purchased Elite Dangerous: Horizons, they will be entitled to play both Elite Dangerous & Elite Dangerous: Horizons when game when it is launched for £39.99. If they would like to play Elite Dangerous right now, today - they'll need to purchase Elite Dangerous for £29.99 with no obligation to play ED:Horizons. I hope that clears it all up CMDR Black Arrow You get access to it all, but not until Horizons releases.
Joanne Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 I've finished Metal Gear Solid V now. Just got a few side ops to polish off then I'm going to explore the online bit. I have a question for anyone who has completed it. May or may not contain spoilers... So I lost Quiet so I could do mission 40 and get the key item hankerchief. This is so you can develop the sniper wolf costume for her... but you can't develop it.... because you don't have her anymore... WTF is that about?!?
X-13 Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 I've finished Metal Gear Solid V now. Just got a few side ops to polish off then I'm going to explore the online bit. I have a question for anyone who has completed it. May or may not contain spoilers... Yeah. That's one of dumb things about this. And even though Kojima said you can find her after the game, to get her back... You can't. They should have let you steal one of the sniper Skulls so you're not losing 1/4 of your buddies.
Joanne Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 So frustrating! I thought I'd get her back after arduous mission 45! Urgh... my one piece of advice is prepare for that one. I had to get stuff air dropped in after waiting 18 minutes for development!!!
simpsonj Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 *Sigh* Spoilers guys! X-13 reply came up in my email and I instantly knew what he was talking about Turns out there is a way to avoid the issue by changing your emblem, but it's a little late if you're past that mission. Also it only freezes the issue, rather than resolves it...

I had to get stuff air dropped in after waiting 18 minutes for development!!! ...you can quit the mission. Menu > Return to ACC (Abort mission) Or just die and abort that way.
Joanne Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 I didn't want to. I'd got halfway!! I made it in the end... with the epic chicken hat of zero points. NB: I took the butterfly off my emblem so I could do mission 40 and get the hankerchief for the sniper wolf costume.
Tesla Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 I just bought Fallout 3 GOTY never played any of them, thought i may aswell as i hear it's good and i'll probably look to get fallout 4 when its out.
LeMarchand Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Alien Isolation.... EPIC! Got that for a tenner in Sainsburys - must get around to it. I've just got the Game of Thrones Telltale series for under £8.
Tesla Posted October 12, 2015 Author Posted October 12, 2015 Fallout 3 seems good so far, especially now i've got an assault rifle (In the Simulator mission anyways...which is taking ages!)
