sted Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Ive been asked to look for software (ideally free)that can record video of what the user is doing on their pc (so a teacher can show other teachers/kids how to do something) any suggestions as personally i default to static screengrabs as i find that easier than moving video

AMLinington Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I don't know if it helps, but there is a tool called the 'Problem Steps Recording' tool inbuilt in Windows 7 - it takes screenshots (30 is the default but you can change it in the settings to whatever you want). Search in the start menu for psr.exe. You end up with a step by step screenshot record of steps. It's not a video but it's perfect for making articles showing how to do something. Worth a look. I only found out about it a couple of weeks ago lol. You learn something new every day. 2

LiamHaith Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I've used OBS extensively for screen recording and it's great. Fully customizable, doesn't really harm performance all that much (more beneficial for older rigs) and great quality. Also has a relatively decent amount of plugins. OBS +1 1

OBS +1 I forgot to mention OBS, I've always used it for streaming, I've never tested the local recording feautre but if it's as good as everyone says I would very highly recommend it
JoeFulford Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Had the same request from a DT teacher here. Suggested Camstudio as I had used it before. Also used Bandicam before so could vouch for that. Either work great but Camstudio has a lower file size output so I opted for that!
Duranis Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I would also highly recommend OBS (I have used for streaming and for local recording and it is a brilliant bit of software). Another one I use is DXtory as it lets you record separate audio sources (good for recording voice overs) and is very light weight and simple (but isn't free).

disk Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 PowerPoint 2016 (and I believe 2013) has a nice screen recording function built-in. Open a blank project, select the Insert tab and there in the ribbon menu is "Screen Recording". It automatically puts the movie into the slide, but you can right click and save as. 1
