If you're looking for a hardware aided solution take a look at MRT-Pro and PC-3000 I've heard good things about them and I've dealt with a repair shop which was using PC-3000 Chinese clone and it worked just fine.

Avast has a really good antivirus engine and it's free. recently they've launched a cloud service to make able to control all your antivirus installs.. worth a shot. I've also used Kaspersky.. very good AV and I didn't have problems after installing it.. But the management console isn't really great.

If you have videolan installed for playing videos you can use that to record computer screen as well

Can Ruckus ZoneDirector 1100 (or any controller for that matter) prioritize user/SSID traffic per client down to each application session running on the client machine? Let’s say a user is on a video conference call and at the same time transferring a huge file to the file server, will I be able to give the video conference traffic a higher priority so his call won't drop?

noted. I have a policy in the school which not allow teachers to bring thier own WiMAX/WIFI routers, which of thoses systems I mentioned can help me locate rouge access points better.

Well... Since we have a full time windows application developer, we have our own developed in-house VB.NET and MSSQL based MIS. This makes things easier for me, I can ask the developer to pull the data nightly/hourly in bulk or I can just ask him to connect directly to the website's database to pull the information as-needed. Since there seems to be no practical ready-to-use solution for this problem I think I should create my own, now I have two problems. - Which software/framework should I use to create this system? - How should I go about securing the parent access to his information? I have some thoughts that I would like to share with you regarding these two questions, for the software that I might use, I have two routes, the first route is using CMS like drupal or MODx, the second route is using CRM like CiviCRM. The second issue is a bit complicated since we don't have the website published yet! thats why I am thinking maybe I could send the parent an SMS security token to allow him access to his information but I didn't go about how to impelement that yet.

I am looking for a free way integrate admission and parent information update into our current website. I currently have joomla powered website but I am ok if joomla won't help with that since I didn't publish the website yet. The school administration think that this is too much for what they expected to pay for network infrastructure, guess I'll have to get some alternative plans ready in case I can't really convince them of the benefits of getting cisco equipments. First you need to decide how you're going to connect your routers together. Check this link for info on that. I chose WDS since my routers are close to each other and I didn't want to use wires at all. Well, looking at cisco’s website I can only find a few switches that support 10GbE uplinks like some of the 3500 and 3700 series which are really meant to be distribution switches and are really expensive. I just wish I can get away with enough budget to implement something decent. The second cisco associate came today and I asked him if it will be much more expensive if we decided to go for 10GbE from core to distribution switches and he said that there isn't really a lot of links between the core and distribution so I can't see why not install 10GbE from day one and not have to wait for later upgrade. Makes sense but let’s hope I won't break the bank going cisco's route, if the administration decided that its more than what they would like to pay, all this effort will just go in vain. The same guy will also provide me with a complete network infrastructure, IP Cameras and PBX design and budgetary by next week. Let’s see what he will come up with. Edit: BTW James, you mentioned that redundancy could be implemented at layer 2 or layer 3. what difference could it make?

Hi, I have windows server 2003 R2 SP2 fully updated. When I open Group Policy Management. I see the domain and all the policies. But then when I right click then choose Edit, it opens a window called Group Policy Object Editor with Local Computer Policy at the top? regardless of whichever policy I choose. any clues? the only workaround to edit my GPOs was to run mmc and add "Group Policy Object Editor" snap-in and browse for the policy that I want to edit.

Hi all, our school is going to be transferred to new buildings. We currently don't have much of a network going, mostly unmanaged switches and a Mikrotik router working as hotspot for teachers' internet use and no real use of network as I wish it to be. So I am taking this chance to change the network to something useful. I started looking at other schools' network diagrams on the internet to get ideas and inspiration. Hi, we are going to transfer our school to new bigger and better buildings. Since we will have more room in the new place we want to expand our capacity and replace some old cabinets, desks, chairs, etc. … I was thinking maybe we can buy this stuff from China or Malaysia (price is a big concern here) the problem is that I have no clue on where to find those suppliers are and how to reach them I tried looking around hoping to find good manufacture or supplier in those countries but I can’t find a good trustworthy supplier yet and I was hoping maybe someone can help with direction or advice. Btw, our school is in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Thats a very good asp script plexer thanks. I have checked papercut's product before but It needs users to be logged in with a unique user name to be distinguished. My problem is that I use a single user account for all the teachers' since I only have 5 computers for printing and 30-40 teachers are allowed to print. So it would be really great if papercut would allow me to trigger my database program with pre-populated data about doc name and how many pages and leave the teacher only to enter his name and click on save, but I guess it can't do that (at least as far as I know). I'll give papercut another shot, but I would be really glad if I could find a service or program or maybe a wmi script to monitor printing jobs and allow me to lunch my database when appropriate.

The teachers in my school are using an access database to record the printing jobs which they are doing and some info about it like teacher's name and how many pages etc., most of the time they forget to use the database which make the database statistics useless. I need to create a script to monitor the printer and remind them to enter the info about the current print job or at least give them the choice to do so.
