    What do you tend to do with your labs? Like what sort of set up do you think about doing. I'm on Dreamspark but not sure what to try and implement for experience and training.

    Thanks a lot for the advice. I'm going to pick up some CBT Nuggets videos, look at the exam requirement and just get some hands on experience. They normally have some practice questions on their website as well don't they. I'll have a look at those. It's good to know that LX-103 and LX-104 are definitely the two that I need to do. It was the exam codes and rewarded cert that I was confused about. Thanks, and good luck on your second exam.

    Hi, I want to start looking at getting a few Linux certs and learn my away around Linux servers and Networks. I'm thinking about doing the CompTIA Linux+. Is this a good path to choose? Also I notice that it's made up of two exams. Are these exams for each separate LPI qualification? I've seen LPIC-1 and LPIC-2, are these two exams what make up the CompTIA Linux+? Little bit confused, any advice and guidance would be appreciated Thanks!

    Thanks a lot! I've been looking around for articles for ages but wasn't able to find out anywhere! Uninstalling Kb3139923 fixed the issue. You can also fix it by installing KB3072630

    Tried that and all I can see are ones from 14th of last month. Unless somehow it's gone undetected from then. I've uninstalled a few but hasn't fixed my installer issue. Not even sure simply uninstalling will fix it, but no other fix online has worked so I'm just hoping it will.

    I don't know which one it is and plus it doesn't remove it from machines that have already grabbed and installed the update.

    I receive the windows installer service cannot be accessed error. I've tried every single suggestion on the internet and no luck... only fix I've found is to re-image machines. This has fixed the issue but it's not a viable option for me to re-image every PC for this when I'm hoping and guessing that just uninstalling the update should fix the issue.

    Hi All, Please help me out. I've spent 8 hours on this and hoping someone else has the same issue. A windows update was approved by my colleague last week I believe and it's broken the MSI service on my machines. I can't install anything or update anything that requires an MSI. Normal fixes found on Microsoft's website and forums don't fix the issue. I'm almost certain it's a windows update issue. I can't find out what update it is though and I'm close to jumping out the window right down to the ground. Is anyone else having the same issue anywhere? Thanks Joe

    I use Impero at my secondary school. This has a great power schedule feature. This turns all of the computers on for me 15 minutes before school starts. And then I shut them all down half an hour to an hour after school finishes. This allows time for after school clubs etc.

    I don't really. I deploy updates at lunchtimes and just after school hoping that it will get them updated but to be honest I'm not that bothered. I apply only the WSUS updates I deem necessary and then after that they just update when they can.

    Open Broadcaster Software. Honestly use this one. Great video and audio quality, easy to use. I use it at my school. Never had any issues

    I just allow Full Control on the Redirected Start Menu share for the students and then Run and Execute on NTFS. This allows them to search correctly for me.

    Do you not use Solus for your deployment? Also do you host your SIMS.ini or connect.ini in a network location? You'll have to make sure a drive is mapped to that location if so.

    I work very much the same as DaveP. I have non-spellcheck accounts set up in one OU and spell check exam accounts in another OU. Obviously the non-spellcheck have GPO's that limit everything but Wordpad and Spellcheck are allowed access to Word and/or Wordpad. I usually go round and log all of the exam accounts in before the exam as our invigilators are completely incapable of doing so. I then open a wordpad document and save the document in the following way "%Subject% - %StudentName% - %Date%". The students then are told to save regularly to which it saves to the home folders on the network. If the students don't save regularly and they lose their work because of a failure then it's tough luck. After the exam I pull all of the work out of the home folders and save it to an archive. I have folders for each subject, and each exam on whichever date so it is easy to find. I then batch print all of the work and we get the students to sign each piece of their work.

    Hi All, I'm wondering if anyone may be able to help me out here. In SIMS we run our students reports each term. We have a line of code in our report template that autoprints the file. We print these out onto labels that we stick in the students planner. This is all fine but we would like to keep a saved copy of each report as a word document. We could leave our autoprint function in the template and get it to print to PDFCreator and let them all save in there as PDF's... buuuut we don't want them as PDF's. We want them as Word Documents. When SIMS generates a report most of you will know that it generates as a word document. Is there a macro that I can add into the template to save the word document to a specific location? So put simply... I need a script that will automatically save a document to a set location without any prompts and then close itself after? Thanks! Joe

    Where is it you want the .xml files being blocked? Try reinstalling flash player and see if your YouTube videos work then? Have you disabled any plugins to your IE Policy? That could affect the YouTube videos.

    We use BYOD. I sent weeks setting up Ruckus authentication, VLAN's and so on. Everything needed for BYOD to be contained but some of the teachers have I think released the main WiFi password to the students and so they're on the normal WiFi. It's hassle changing the Network Key so I just try keeping it contained.

    Hi Matt, I've figured out how to block this. So I finally realised that when printing from iOS and it going through fingerprint on our print server it get's listed as "administrator" and when from an Android Device it's "SYSTEM". On Papercut you can open up these usernames and look on the account. From the profile page you can block printing indefinitely. Have tested this morning and all blocked perfectly. No more phantom printing! Cheers

    We have yes. Do you know how this is done? I had a quick look at it earlier and added the Deny option from anyone who's not a member of the 'AllStaff' and 'AllStudents' AD Group but the print managed to still make it through? Our Print Copy Scan support company are going to have a look through it for us and try to help me get it all sorted.

    UPDATE: Mystery solved. I checked CCTV and realised that the student had his phone out. It then clicked and got us thinking. Tested a print from my phone and sure enough it came through logged as 'SYSTEM'. If anyone ever comes across this problem then be sure to check your BYOD users. Unfortunately there is no way to actually track which phone or user this came from however I believe that there is a way somehow that you can block 'SYSTEM' or 'administrator' from printing through Papercut.

    Hi All, I've got a real headache going on here. Every now and then we get dodgy print jobs coming through to our printers. Yesterday we have 10 pages of pornographic images sent to our Library printer. We use Papercut here which tracks all of the print jobs and logs. This is all good and everything except whenever we have dodgy print jobs come through that we need to track back to a user, it always shows up as being printed from 'SYSTEM' and the file name just 'Photo'. I can't imagine this is from the same student, in fact I know for sure that it's not. I've looked on CCTV as well and no one has gone to the printer and printed straight from a USB stick or cabled directly in. Has anyone ever had to deal with anything like this before or does anyone have any idea how it might have been printed through as 'SYSTEM'?? I'm really struggling here! Thanks, JF

    I use WordPad here for my exams. I use separate exam accounts that are locked down. I usually go and log the accounts on, automatically opens WordPad and just save the document in each of their areas. I'm going to look into MJK's suggestion however as the auto-save features would be great for us.
