  1. Had the same request from a DT teacher here. Suggested Camstudio as I had used it before. Also used Bandicam before so could vouch for that. Either work great but Camstudio has a lower file size output so I opted for that!
  2. I use a GPO to block them running .exe's etc. as well as hiding C Drive so on so forth, basically what everyone else uses. I also use ESET Endpoint Protection and File Resource manager to stop people putting batch files, cscripts and anything else on the server.
  3. I'm currently study for my 70-410 exam. I have watched all the CBT Nugett's videos. I've seen a sort of half and half about these videos. I've been taking a lot of exam dumps and there is so much material that I see coming up in the exam that is not even mentioned in the videos.
  4. I use storagecraft Shadow Protect. It backs up all of the Virtuals on our two Hyper-V servers. Great piece of software. Got a seperate physical server running Server 2008 as our BDR server with Western Digital Elements HDD's that I swap around every couple days. I also run Shadow copy on our main DC to take snapshots of all the redirected folders for students and staff so that I can make a quick and easy backup if need be.
  5. Thanks a lot everyone for all the great replies. Seems like good software. Really excited to get it implemented and monitor our costs more effectively. Should hopefully save our Reprographics manager a lot of time and effort.
  6. Haha no problem Rabbie. Glad to see someone else in my position!
  7. Do you still have the 2003 server? I know that I've had this sort of error a few times before when it's unable to find a policy. This would usually be because of a replication error, ours seems to cock up from time to time. I've often tried fixing the replication relationship for both of our DC's so that the failover still gets the policies it needs. My fix for this is to normally just copy and paste the policies folder. Would there be anyway that you could retrieve your SYSVOL folder from your old server and manually copy and paste them over?
  8. Hi Guys, My boss (the finance and business director) has spoken to our printer support company and decided to get Papercut installed. I'll have to set this up over the Easter whenever I'm free. We're also getting to new RISO printers wooo! Our's sucked before, never worked properly. But anyway, back on track. Has anyone here had much experience with Papercut. I'm not talking about installing the software, because I'm sure that'll be a doddle. But I mean actual experience with it. Does it work effectively? I currently running Impero here to manage print credits which prevents our pupils spamming out hundreds of pages of Justin Bieber posters to put on their bedroom wall (trust me, that's happened here before! ). I also use the Papercut print logger which is pretty nice. It compiles any print's sent in a CSV. Any answers would be nice to hear. Cheers all!
  9. I just set the acceptable use policy as an image for the login screen and stated by logging into the network you are agreeing to the following... blah blah blah. Does everything it should do and is free XD
  10. I use school asset manager at my school. Great little system! Never had any problems with it whatsoever.
  11. Would it allow us to set alerts for our Calendar Administrators to receive alerts such as the one I pasted except with the date included? Thanks!
  12. Hi All, Not sure if you have had much experience with Sharepoint but I'm having a little issue with Alert Emails. I have set up Alerts on the Calendar for whenever there are any changes made: Title: Test Alert User: Joe Bloggs Users Email: [email protected] Location: Start Time: 15:00 End Time: 16:00 Allday Event: False Category: School Events Description: Status: 2;#Pending Accepted/Rejectedcomments: This alert is almost perfect except it doesn't have the date of the event written on it anywhere? I can't seem to find anything online that helps me with this or says that there is an option to do so. I'm really struggling to understand why Microsoft wouldn't have created this alert and think that including the date of the event shouldn't be done? Does anyone know how I would be able to do this? Thanks a lot! From a Confused Technician
  13. I'm having this problem here. I've spoke to our SIMS support and they can't seem to help us at the moment. They need to ask other places and then get back to us. I am using SOLUS3 if that helps anyone.
  14. Got this working now. Uninstalled Discover and reinstalled it. For some reason it had installed at an older version of the database. Thanks guys!
  15. Hi Everyone, Sorry for another thread requesting help but I had a little bit of trouble yesterday getting Discover installed on a machine. I've now got it installed and it's on the top bar on SIMS and opens up fine; except it asks for a username and password. It should be the same as his SIMS login right? But no luck there, it won't even accept my own or another teacher who uses Discover frequently. I've asked the user to come and try logging in to Discover on another machine we already had it installed on and poof, everything runs through perfectly fine. It doesn't even ask for a login when run from SIMS, it put's him straight on. So I'm led to believe that Discover may not have been installed properly on his machine or it's somehow not retrieving his login credentials successfully. Anyone had this problem before or know how I could fix it? Thanks!
  16. Neil your solution worked perfectly! Thankyou very much, couldn't get my head around it. I deployed Sims Discover and it was in Program Files and everything but not SIMS, forgot about the local sims.ini file.
  17. Ok I don't seem to have that. Maybe I'm installing it incorrectly? In SOLUS I go to Update Environment -> change the channel to SIMS Discover -> Browse AD and add the desired machine -> Then add the computer, save and close. Should it then push discover to it automatically or do I need to do something else that I'm missing? Thanks!
  18. This would be a great addition. We currently only have Staff iPads here so they don't need to be monitored too closely like this. I currently use Meraki to manage our iPads.
  19. Hi Everyone, Is SIMS Discover a standalone application or can it be integrated with SIMS? Also how do I install it? It seems as though I pushed it out to one of our employees yesterday but he can't seem to find it. I looked on his C$ and it has SIMS discover in his Program Files?
  20. We have just got round to implementing SharePoint quite recently in the school I work at. This allows our staff and students to access their folders remotely so we don't really need dropbox although some staff do still use it as well as One Drive. As long as they aren't storing confidential student information or anything sensitive then I don't see any huge problem with it.
  21. Hi EduGeek, I'm an IT Apprentice and am pretty much running the network in a secondary school I work at. The school is currently running Impero Remote Administration software that has a power management feature built into it although it doesn't actually work. I've done a lot of testing and can't seem to get it to power the machines off and then wake them again. What software do you recommend I could use on the Network for power management and how I can monitor power usage? I'm doing this off my own back because I'd like to impress my line manager, who is also the director of business and finance. Any suggestions and help would be much appreciated. Thankyou!
