I have voted. I had votes in the general election (obviously) and our council elections.

 

In the council election, I had two votes and there were no candidates standing for my party of choice. I thought about not voting and thought about a spoilt paper. In the end I decided to vote with the party that I felt had the best chance of keeping out the party I definitely did not want to win. Hoping I made the right choice...

I had three ballot papers; one for Parliament, one for the District council and one for the Parish. There were five candidates for the Parish council of which you could choose four. Only one of those candidates was not a tory so best case scenario, 3/4 of the new Parish councillors are going to be Conservative. This is supposed to be democracy?

 

In fact, across the whole town, out of 26 candidates 16 are Tory and only one ward out of four has more than six candidates. This really is blue country :(

 

I spoiled that ballot, this is not supposed to be an oligarchy.

That's a heck of an exit poll. Have all other polls been this wrong that labour could go from a 5% last minute surge yesterday to a 20% drop today??

Well the last exit poll, 2010, was spot on bar 2 seats between Lab and LD. However there's already talk of the '92 exit poll that almost predicted a Labour majority and John Major won a narrow majority. Apparently the increase in support in minor parties makes it hard to predict. So still all to play for...

This is the most polled election ever with every methodology used predicting a close race. I just can't believe that exit poll is accurate.

Stupid question possibly, but how can an exit poll predict anything based on interviewing a measly 22,000 people? Even spread nationally that only accounts for about 34 people per constituency. How does that work? Or do they only interview in those that are likely to sway and ignore the ones that are expected to hold by a landslide? Just seems like a lot of emphasis put on the exit poll by the BBC for such tiny figures.

Most of the opinion polls from YouGov etc are based on a panel of about 1000 people, so a sample of 22,000 is quite large. How they do it I've no idea but it's standing up pretty well so far but early days yet.

Well with Nuneaton being held with an increased Tory majority it looks like the exit polls are becoming more and more accurate - well actually the swing from Lab to Con is currently exceeding the exit polls so could be heading for a Tory majority :S Edited by sparkeh

I've just woken to find that Boris Johnson won his seat. In that same constituency were two looney parties (awesome fact #1)... and there were 3 candidates that got less votes than them (awesome game that #2)

 

That's made the election worthwhile for me!

Blimey, Didn't realise Labour were so unpopular! only 1 seat in Scotland (Can you spot it?) and a lot lost in England too..

Didn't you? I realised that was going to happen a while ago. In fact, this election has gone as expected.

The Tories have won and the lies about labour collapsing the whole world economy and the stacks against miliband by the Tory faithful has paid off. Congratulation on the great deception and another 5 years of Tory misery.

 

I'm not suggesting anything in this post, but was Miliband really capable of being PM? Really? Maybe if they had his brother...

I don't know a lot about David, but I suspect you may be right, Miliband just doesn't seem PM material..

Just watching him on PMQ's the last few months has shown that he isn't as strong or confident as Cameron

Indeed. He just looks like a stooge. He looks like he had the same tips about smiling as Gordon Brown got! The thing that got me was he never looks imposing or confident about the policies his party were setting out. Cameron is very composed and a strong individual. Right or wrong about the policies he will push out the country needs a strong leader.

Horrible results so far. Think I may take up alcoholism.

 

Things to look forward to:

 

1. EU referendum

2. Scotland pushing for another independence referendum

3. An attempt to get rid of the hunting ban

4. More cuts and attacks on the poor and disabled

5. More wealth going straight into the pockets of the rich

6. More privatisation of the NHS

7. More badger culling

Before the TV debates I'd have agreed with you. But I think Ed did a fantastic job in those debates and came out very strong indeed. Not strong enough it seems.

 

Personally I think the SNP story is a bit of a sideshow this election - well done to them by the way. They were never a real issue for Labour. The real story of this election is the Liberal Democrats!

 

It's interesting, for 5 years they've been boo'd for getting in bed with the Tories and what happens at the election - their voters switch to Tory en mass. You would have thought they would be more ideologically aligned to Labour. That fact that Labour didn't pick up these seats is the real problem and I fear the reason was...

Without the LD's to keep them in check this is going to be a very different government. Theressa May, this morning, was already talking about re-introducting the communications bill, AKA The Snoopers Charter!

Well at least the Scottish referendum won't happen. They had their shot... what will it turn into otherwise: one a year? That is not democracy when you revote when you don't get the answer you want.
