Just voted conservative after 10 years as a Labour voter. Funny who your politics change as you get older.

 

Maily due to the threat of a hung Parliament and the SNP gaining power, but also due to the leader of Labour. I really don't like the hate he has for successful people.

 

I'm actually going the other way. Mainly because, as far as I can see, most "successful" folk became a success at the expense of others.

People said the same about the M25 years ago and just about every other infrastructure project ever built.

 

HS2 is primarily being sold on the promise of decreased travel times to London. What I am saying is that the Midlands and London aren't so far apart to justify a slight decrease in travel time for such a massive amount of money.

I did, maglev - anything else just lacks future vision.

 

Maglev isn't exactly proven technology! There's a 9km commercial line in Japan, a 30km line that opened less than 2 years ago in Shanghai, and a 1km line in South Korea. Not exactly a lot to base a new 400km line on! With our risk averse governments of late, they're not likely to buy into it until they see a long distance line appear and operate successfully somewhere else in the world.

Funny how people perceive things differently. I've never felt that Miliband hates successful people, rather that he wants to help the ordinary people in society to be successful as well.

And why exactly is this news? Political leaders are British Citizens and thus entitled to vote. And it's a little bit obvious what party they're voting for.

if you're gonna put money into R&D I'd put in to developing a space elevator. It's a gamble but the first nation to develop one isn't going to have a nation debt for very long. Success will pay for all the maglev trains you could want - who cares if they work or not!

ICM/Guardian polls showed Labour drawing neck and neck yesterday too - and they've very much had Labour trailing for weeks (when everyone else had them ahead or equal).

And why exactly is this news? Political leaders are British Citizens and thus entitled to vote. And it's a little bit obvious what party they're voting for.

 

Because there's naff all else news they can actually report on at this point on polling day, yet 24 hour news demands they say something. See also: "the royal baby has not yet been born" for a full week each time.

General election - choice of the 5 main parties.

 

Borough council election: 2 votes, but only 4 candidates... 2 conservative, 1 green and 1 labour. It shows how safe a conservative seat this is. The other parties can't or won't put candidates in.

Investment bankers are the first, retail bankers are the second. They're very different things. One gambles with other people's money. The other has rules about who they can give mortgages to, and how much capital they must hold to do so.
