LiamH Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 While learning how to be a good line member is important for an alliance (stfu and do what the fc tells you basically) its helpful to learn how to pvp in small gangs / solo as well so make sure you sign up for roaming gangs if you do jump in rather than just fleet ops. SRP's are nice but don't always cover the fittings, insurance will help with that but bare in mind things tend to cost more in null sec since someone has risked their backside hauling stuff from highsec. You will still need some sort of income, many people do this with an alt. Eve university might be a "safer" noob corp, they still do null sec fleets but live in highsec afaik. I would grab a decent overview pack and get used to using that ("/join SaraShawa-Overview" in game) and go get your nose bloodied!
halbaradkenafin Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 just had fun probing down mission runners and scaring them by uncloaking my stealth bomber on them before flying off. (high sec and cba scooping loot to bait them) I think the safety system has pretty much killed the classic ninja looter style of ganking high sec mission runners. I understand why CCP did it but it's a little disappointing as it used to be an amusing way to waste a few hours probing people down and finding out if they'd fire on that harmless little frigate or not.

How so? Even when I played it 8 years ago there were secure and insecure systems ranging from 0 to 1, depending on CONCORD presence..? What's changed?

What's changed? The little green light bit next to the cap dial is part of the "safety" system, you can set three levels and it is basically there to prevent you from attacking something you don't want to. It's default to Green so you can't accidentally attack any other player, which pretty much defeats the purpose of some people ninja looting.
Garacesh Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 Ohh right I'm with you.. Harassing someone until they shoot at you, CONCORD give them a swift kick up the rear end, and you help yourselves to the contents of their cargo container. Got it
halbaradkenafin Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Ohh right I'm with you.. Harassing someone until they shoot at you, CONCORD give them a swift kick up the rear end, and you help yourselves to the contents of their cargo container. Got it Sort of, the basic method was: 1) Probe down a mission runner in a shiny ship 2) warp in a frigate and loot some of their wrecks 3) you're flagged to them as attackable without concord intervention 4a) if they shoot you then you warp out, grab a combat ship (usually a BC or something) and go back to kill them and get shiny mission runner loot 4b) if they don't shoot then you keep looting and salvaging their wrecks if you need the isk or just warp off and find someone else Just warping in and salvaging was a pretty profitable profession for new players, didn't take too many skills and was basically risk free (other than any new waves in missions possible spawning and aggro'ing you but your frig was usually fast enough and small enough to avoid the damage till you warp out). Shooting mission runners was even more profitable if you could get a Tengu or some other shiny to shoot you as you generally brought in a DPS ship that hit their off resists and could do a decent chunk of damage on top of the rat damage to kill them. The changes to the criminal system to have suspects and safetys and stuff pretty much killed the shooting shiny mission runners part though.
LiamH Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Really getting back into eve. Joined a corporation at the weekend and amazed how organised alliances are now. If you want to get in touch in game shoot me a PM for my toon name. Currently living in nulsec space and away on deployment (pew pew pew yay) so doubt I will be able to do much but will be around to chat. Maybe we should start a in game channel for us edugeekers?
LiamHaith Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Thought I should finally stop lurking and start posting. I'm a very casual EvE player - mostly due to my lack of understanding and low skills. I typically just take out the mining ship and do a few asteroid belts near to where I started the game whilst waiting to research my next combat oriented ship. I'm always up for someone to fly around with and show me the vast, very daunting world. Or just a chat, you can catch me on this and various games (you'll be seeing my posts in those topics soon) with this username. EvE character name - Liam Haith Fly safe o7
Garacesh Posted April 14, 2015 Author Posted April 14, 2015 Still haven't been able to resume playing EVE due to gpu (and no motherboard) failure Thankfully SCAN have agreed to RMA the motherboard.
Arreks Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 I renewed my sub for 3 months because of some anniversary or something.. CCP's emails never cease to pry open my wallet. Don't really fancy PVP or mission running atm though so I'm training up for the t2 frigs to do some exploration etc.
Garacesh Posted May 18, 2015 Author Posted May 18, 2015 (edited) My motherboard got replaced and now I'm saving up for a 980.. Got £400 put aside already. Thinking I'm going to fob off the hydro cooling for now.. Realistically I did it 'cause I like the enthusiast scene, but since I'm not OCing my parts there's really no need for it. So what I think I may do is get a Corsair H80i/H100i for my CPU and keep the GPU in its standard 'blower' shell. I'll satisfy my enthusiast/modding side by recolouring the CPU cooler radiator and the silver parts on the GPU.. metal parts can safely be spray painted with thin coats of Engine Enamel as it is meant for metal and can survive the high temperatures, so that's no risk. I'll probably re-braid the power cables too, to match my colour scheme. And of course, LED light strips and fans. Although I did come across hydro cooled pc's using PETG tubing which is like a hard acrylic and you can, instead of having rubber 'floppy' tubes, heat it up and create 90 degree bends and have the majority of your piping straight, and it looks awesome but I'm trying to keep things reasonable. localzuk Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 I renewed my sub this weekend. Rolled a new character, for a clean break. Went Minmitar this time. Enjoying it so far.

I spend the first couple of days after my re-sub probing down mission runners and scaring them by warping into their dead space.
Garacesh Posted May 18, 2015 Author Posted May 18, 2015 One month in... still no idea what I'm doing That's the spirit!
Ghostgame Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 So here is my industry progress so far. Been mining off and on again for a month to get the minerals I calculated for an industry run of 5 jobs. For those of the eagle eye, there are three jobs because I massively miscalculated on one particular mineral required. [emoji22] So at the moment I am making 600,000 rounds of medium ammunition and 800,000 rounds of large ammunition. Just got to wait another 24 days. [emoji42]
Garacesh Posted May 22, 2015 Author Posted May 22, 2015 Yeah, still not got back online yet. Probably won't until end of next month when I (re)build my machine. Haven't decided how I'm going to make my fortune just yet. I'll probably just weasel into a corp and fill any slots that are needed.
LiamH Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 I need to sort out some income. Resubbed with 2Bill isk in my wallet, down to ~800 mill now. Mainly due to buying ships to run fleet doctrines in. Was thinking about just plexing an alt and trying to play the market a bit.

Was thinking about just plexing an alt and trying to play the market a bit. I know the feeling, I probably spent about a billion (or just under) when I first got into BRAVE about a year ago. I've been slowly recouping ever since, but obviously playing on and off every few months isn't the way to make fortunes. Maybe now I'm getting back into it properly I'll be able to fill the wallet the a bit more.
Garacesh Posted May 22, 2015 Author Posted May 22, 2015 Still toying with the idea of BRAVE when I get back on.. The whole non-srs "Do it for the lulz" and not caring if you get blown to smithereens sounds right up my alley
LiamHaith Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 800mil... I just don't even... I thought I was doing really well with my 8.XXX mil... Then I saw the price of some of the ships, I think I've gotta save another 40 or so for my next ship upgrade. That's alot of mining

That's alot of mining Luckily it gets easier I'd imagine if you're mining and saving for a ship, you're looking into a Covetor/Hulk or something? it'll be a big difference and you'll make a lot more ISK! Still toying with the idea of BRAVE when I get back on.. The whole non-srs "Do it for the lulz" and not caring if you get blown to smithereens sounds right up my alley Pretty much the reason I joined them, I don't particularly like taking orders from people (when I'm playing a game!) but since there was always a few different fleets I could always pick the FC's I liked
localzuk Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Been playing for this week and have about 30 mill in assets now, on my newbie char. Should be able to double it at least this weekend. Got 14 days worth of skills queued up as well. Not remapped any points yet though, might do it when I decide what I want to do "career"-wise.
LiamHaith Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Luckily it gets easier I'd imagine if you're mining and saving for a ship, you're looking into a Covetor/Hulk or something? it'll be a big difference and you'll make a lot more ISK! I'm not actually mining for a better mining ship, I'm looking to buy the next thing up from my Condor, Battleship I think? I'll always be happy with my little Venture for mining, it's a dinky little thing and does the job for what I mine (the easiest Ore to get in 1.0 sec zones) - I never go anywhere else in the case I die and lose everything
Garacesh Posted May 22, 2015 Author Posted May 22, 2015 I should probably login and set a month's worth of skills training, but my sub's out right now and I can't be fussed resubbing just to train skills.
