Hello,

Can anyone recommend a firewall or let me know which you are using? I am looking to install a firewall to enable us to host our own website and provide remote access for staff. Essentially fencing off the internal network creating a DMZ for the web server, remote access servers etc. I would also need someone of sign off the config when it is setup to satisfy the ISP/LA.

I've got a budget of around £2,500

Thanks in advance!

If you're a secondary school a Fortigate 100D will do the trick.

I've got quite a few refurb ones in stock you can have for a lot less than £2,500 as we've been moving people from onsite boxes to our virtualised cloud infrastructure.

Send me a PM and I'll give you a bargain of a price :)

Thanks

Dave

Since there's already at least one vendor here.. I'll chip in - a Smoothwall firewall can do all of that (as can the other suggestions), but also leaves your options open for filtering later on. Drop me a line with any questions.

Either Stormshield (Use to be Known as NETASQ) or Fortinet. We have hundreds of these in secondary schools throughout the UK and both are great. If you do decide that either of these suit you we can provide them at a VERY (read zero margin to us) price. Just PM me if you'd like more information.

Slightly adjunct to the question but... how are the SophosUTM and Cyberroam products differentiated?

Incidentally we use pfsense, elsewhere I've replaced TMG with Smoothwall, and I have THREE Cisco 5515's sitting idle because I can't afford to pay anyone to set them up and support them (bought and mis-managed before my time here)

We use Cisco Hardware firewalls globally and they are great, Sonicwall are just well renamed SonicFail, they are not good bits of kit at all, our experience of them is they all fail and suck to the point of will not ever touch them.

I am looking at Juniper SRX240 but someone mentioned to look at Lightspeed as it has option for MDM and Web filter all in one and or Smoothwall. One thing that I don't want is ongoing subscription and tie ourselves up with ever so increasing subscription prices. The search still goes on.....
