elsiegee40 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Whatever I get to replace my iphone 4 (Tesco 1 month rolling contract), I will be buying the handset and getting a sim only deal as it works out cheaper with everything I have done the maths for. I intend to go with three mobile for the sim as I want the 'feel at home' international roaming because we travel overseas, particularly to France, regularly.

Do Virgin just make up the tariffs on demand or something? Or is it worth arguing for a better deal? Cheapest I can see on their website today with unlimited data is £20 a month. Very battered Nexus 4 here on 3, sim only, £12/month 300 minutes, unlimited data

It's very well made and has some snazzy features. Tariff is a rolling months SIM only contract from Three. £12.90, unlimited data (including LTE/4G), 200 minutes, 5000 texts. I once had a conversation with a Virgin Mobile guy on the phone who told me that none of the staff really understood the deals that their system throws out. My wife and I renew our contracts at the same time and our tariffs change depending on who goes first (eg its more expensive for me to get the deal first and then enquire about my wife's contract than the other way round!?). Its a lottery everytime we renew. Currently have an S3 mini - £10/month for 600mins (free to other VM mobiles), unlimited texts and unlimited data.

From reading up it'd be a downgrade on my Nexus 4, but solid for the money. I just wish my N4 wasn't dying

Only upgraded from my Nexus 4 as I got a 5 for free due to a cock up with my partners insurance (he also has a Nexus 5) Love both the Nexus 4 and 5. The variation in pricing with Virgin contracts is depending on when you joined them. I joined around 1.5 years ago.

Out of the box it had the screen issue (screen thinks it being touched when it isn't) so it was replaced with one that did the same thing. Google told me that a lot of people have the same issue so it was swapped for another phone.

I was paying £15 a month for that plan but then phoned up every month for about 3 months threatening to cancel and eventually got it down to £7 per month which im happy with. My myself and the other half have one

She's had it from the day after it was released in the UK and it's been fine, but she's a pretty heavy user and after about 14 months it's just now starting to show it's age, nothing major; the gyro sensor sometimes requires a tap to get the screen to rotate and the chrome will just quit with no warning and it requires a reboot a couple of times a week for random issues.

It's cheap, battery is good, it's very tough, and its performance is quite adequate for the price.
rickjames Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Just noticed that it's the 1st Gen rather than 2nd, I'm put off somewhat now. Also having a half decent camera wouldn't go amiss, I find the Nexus 4 autofocus kinda shoddy, particularly in low light.

Just phone them up, ask to change your tarrif and tell them what you want. I had a specific requirement for unlimited data, but my call use is very light, so I got 150 mins + unlimited Virgin + unlimited texts + unlimited data for £10/month. As my family are also on Virgin, my off net minutes are only about 10 - 20 per month. I've always found Virgin CS very good. Edited February 3, 2015 by jinnantonnixx

Got free upgrade to 4G a couple of months in when they (allegedly!) enabled my area It's a great phone, but the 16GB storage (with no expansion) is too small and it seems to be getting very slow of late - hoping the Android 5 update (if it ever comes!) will improve matters.
