School Day split

How do your schools split their day? Currently we have a 2:1:2 split:

Lesson 3

Lunch

Lesson 4

Lesson 5

 

How is it organised in your school? Does anyone to a 2:2:1 split?

We do the same although lesson 4 and 5 is shorter as we have assemblies at the end of the day.

Bloody stupid system if you ask me. The only thing going for it is I have a couple of hours friday afternoon with almost nobody around to get into the classrooms and do those jobs that really need doing when there is no-one around, update machines etc.

We operate only 4 periods per day, each of 75 minutes.

We took out PM registration about 18 months ago and use P4 to cover the PM session mark.

 

This cuts down on the between periods larking about, it also means school finishes at 1510 leaving time for meetings etc

 

When I first started here the mornings used to drag as there are three hours between my start time and brew time, but then the afternoons flew by.

We did have to change to a 2:1:2 split during the exams period, but the new exams officer got rid of that.

The last school I worked in had an interesting school day:

 

Period 1 (8:30 - 11:50)

Form/Assembly Time (11:50 - 12:20)

Period 2 (12:20 - 16:00)

 

There was a rolling break during period 1 (20 minutes) and a rolling lunch during period 2 (40 minutes) so the break/lunch time would depend on the class. Period 1 and Period 2 could also be sub-divided into 2 "half" sessions (1a, 1b, 2a, 2b). This was typically done for KS3, but KS4/KS5 tended to have the full 3hr session.

 

AM registration was taken during P1/P1a, PM during P2/P2a.

My governor, secondary school uses 2:2:1. They find more lesson 4 is more productive if it's before lunch!

 

It does mean that the morning is very long and, being a boys school, they have a large number of teenage lads who would probably die of starvation if not fed mid morning. As a result, the school has a 30 minute break after lesson 2 when the canteen is open to allow the lads to refuel and get some exercise before being penned indoors to work again.
