chrbb Posted January 2, 2015 Author Posted January 2, 2015 Happy New Year to you - you lucky person - I would love to retire but am neither old enough or rich enough yet, sadly. I am looking to change employment this year though - I need a change I'm nearly old enough to retire, but we made a life changing financial decision this year (2014) and invested in three properties to rent out, so I'm leaving work and my husband's reducing his days. 2 more grandchildren have added to the decision, so we can enjoy some quality time with them. However, I honestly don't think I could stand much longer in my current job, ICT has such a low profile within school, with everything I do to expand, enhance and make things easier for staff and pupils totally ignored. My plan was to find something, anything actually, with less stress and responsibility. Final straw came when I had to leave work at lunchtime to pick up a sick grandchild up from her school as her mum was in hospital having tests on her 'due any moment' unborn baby and her dad (my son) was at work but on standby to go hospital. I was docked 2 hours pay, now whilst I know grandparents have no work/leave rights, I come into school on my day off when there's a problem, I'm accessible by mobile and email out of hours. Luckily I keep a log of extra hours and was able to fight my corner and have my pay reinstated, due to the fact I was owed more hours than I'd taken

Luckily I keep a log of extra hours and was able to fight my corner and have my pay reinstated, due to the fact I was owed more hours than I'd taken ..which is exactly why I am unhappy with my job too - same sort of thing although in my case the HT will not let me attend BETT (having let me go every other year) even though I have offered to pay the fare so all I am asking for is my 3 hours of time. I am always doing extra and working at home and he knows it We often wish that we had invested in property over the years, partlcularly when Bournemouth Uni got so good, but we didn't and now I don't think we could afford to -and with a mortgage on each property I don't think we would make any money by renting them out, as property is SO expensive around here. No grandchildren as yet but I think we will get one in the next 5 years.. Good luck to you 1
Ephelyon Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 (edited) That's the main reason I stayed in this town when I got my first house as anywhere else around this area of Cheshire (that isn't in the middle of nowhere) is significantly more expensive. Unless you count Winsford, and no-one wants to count Winsford. (I jest, I jest... ) Edited January 2, 2015 by Ephelyon
