LosOjos Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Just out of curiosity, how many of you give out cards and/or gifts? I'll be honest, I don't do it every year, but a couple of people here deserve more than a handshake from me this year for the help they've given me so I'll be doing a beer run tomorrow
Edu-IT Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I used to but I stopped. Purely for the fact that so much goes on over Christmas, it gets a bit costly, and the line has to be drew somewhere.
X-13 Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Just out of curiosity, how many of you give out cards and/or gifts? I did for a couple of years...
witch Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Give cards in one school to people who work nearest to me and a couple who were friends already In the other school- cards to a couple of TAs who have become the nearest to friends that I have. You've made me think though - I will do a card for the head in the school where I am most trusted, listened to, and allowed to go to BETT!!
Garacesh Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Just out of curiosity, how many of you give out cards and/or gifts? Cards I don't like as a matter of principle. I got gifts for the people I share the office with though (3 other IT doods and the cover lady) - - - Updated - - - I might have to get me some of these.. to play xmas songs, or to not play xmas songs... Also, i might hand this out next year. http://i.gyazo.com/85d014971e552c9bf2ae94650800e1e9.png Beat you to it, @Tesla 1
aleach2 Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I hate you No, really, I hate you What do you offer to get that sort of response?????? We don't speak about what extra curricular activities we have to perform 1

MattDLEA Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Bottle of wine for the ICT Co-ordinator and some chocolates for the woman in reception that helps out alot
StevieM Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Just out of curiosity, how many of you give out cards and/or gifts? Just given out cards and a little box of chocs to my 22 Year 6 'Young Leaders' who do a lunchtime play club with our Year 3s. The excitement on their faces when they found out they were all getting a gift was well worth the £1 each I spent on them. :warmandfuzzy: As for staff, I only ever buy a Secret Santa card and gift but we didn't do it this year.
jamesb Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Got a card from one of my recruiters at home, which was nice, and came into work today to find a selection box of chocolates from the CEO (everyone got one, but still a nice thought). Feel a lot better now.
nyiss Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Got a few lovely cards/drawings of some of the kids along with a very cute but rather sketchy looking homemade cupcake. We had a ban on Christmas cards from staff here this year :/ Did get one off a parent and one off the Head who is an exception to the rules. Secret Santa tomorrow, I know for a fact some of the gifts that have shown up for it so far are very much NSFW so might have to wait till the little ones have gone home for that! I have gifts for a lot of the TAs since we are good friends outside of work too. One for the IT coordinator and one for the Head plus prezzies for some of the kids who don't get much which all the staff tend to put in to. Finally starting to feel festive here
Tesla Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 We had a ban on Christmas cards from staff here this year :/ Err...why?
nyiss Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Err...why? Apparently because it gets silly sending them to everyone. Instead we all put the money we would spend on cards into a collection and bought chocolate and goodies for the staff room.

StevieM Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 We had a ban on Christmas cards from staff here this year :/ Err...why? So members of staff who never receive anything don't feel hard done by. Oh... wait...
Iain.Faulkner Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 We've just been given a crate of Budweiser from the Head of Maths :-) That was completely out of the blue :-)
witch Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Woo! One of our newest teachers has given all the non-teaching and non-TA staff (office, librarian, ME!) a chocolate orange. SO nice to be appreciated And the new French teacher wrote in her card how helpful and supportive I have been since she started (which is what I aim to be). That's one in the eye for the HT who told me last term that "more than one" person told him I had snapped at them!!
Smee Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 box of biscuits and a box of chocolates from the ladies in the school office very kind and very unexpected xxx
synaesthesia Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 I'd post a picture, but there's not much chance of finding a camera or our phones underneath the chocolate and pop!
Oaktech Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Ok... with 2 hours to go, the count has risen: 2 cards and 2 drinks at last night's staff do from the Business Manager and the Multi-Lingual TA. Today, a card and a Toblerone from the teacher who probably has least to say thanks for as she never asks for anything!
StevieM Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Came in to find a bag of goodies from one of the Year 3 teachers on my desk. Cards now total 10 and I also received some Very nice beer from Sheffield (geddit?). Edit: 11 cards - a Year 5 girl has just been in with another one.
Arreks Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Some Year 10 girls from catering made me mince pies, my heart melted!
Smellbow Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Three boxes of chocs, 1 tin of biscuits and 1 card. Not too bad. Biscuit fuel for the new year.
