You want to try cleaning a PC that some little kid has puked all over and has managed to get it in side the PC all over the motherboard........Now thats BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How on earth did one of your kids manage to puke inside a PC?!?! Through the vent hole. The PC's are a flexible desktop design which allows them to be used as either a decktop case or with the addition of a couple of clip on feet as a tower case. The vent is on the side of the case which becomes the top when it is turned into a tower.

The servers were out of reach, but the PCs regularly got washed with the contents of the coffee machines... Tea and coffee were usually recoverable after 24 hours drying out, as long as there was no more than 2 sugars! Hot chocolate and soup were fatal!

I managed to stop the builders before they poured anouther load down a drain pipe on the roof. A little was coming out the bottom but they were trying to work out where the rest was going! At least we got a couple of new server out of it

Not sure exactly what part of the comissioning routine that was - but it must have been an important part because i remember him getting quite exited! I do it to all servers and workstations when I commission them now Andrew
Greg_Jones Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Taking apart stuff is fun ! Just remember to use protection.. A gimp braclet (or anti static wrist band, as some say.) Especially on a server. Maybe a sign on the server room door "NO EATING OR DRINKING" Allthough coffee is good for you and there is no such thing as to much(even when your arm tingles for 24 hours)
K.C.Leblanc Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I'd never spill something on the server, mostly because I don't want to slip up when I'm standing on it. That's the trouble with having toner carts on high selves. Oh ok, it's not a server we use anymore.

Lazyletters Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 It pretty much sounds like the coffee has dried over the fan, a simple replacement should do it if everything else is booting up OK. Incidently milk is THE most disgusting think to drop into electronic components. However, removing them and washing using a fine brush to move the larger deposits then rinsing in water with a little unperfumed basic dishwasher rinseaid should ensure that you get no water stain deposits, (also helps to ensure that the water runs off) DRY THOROUGHLY and reinstall. Boot up and hope that the milk didn't cause a short to fry the component before you worked on it. Doesn't always work but it's worth a try. Working in infant schools presents it's own challenges!

mrbios Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 easiest way to stop this from happening....dont allow drinks in the server room, if it was up to me i would completely disallow it here but my managers quite happy to keep someone a cuppa when there, thats what the office is for after all

Similar here - the ICT Suites and Library are food&drink-free zones, as are all the classrooms (excluding the handful of diabetics who need to eat mid-lesson but they stay away from the PCs when eating); office PCs, especially the Staff Room, are a totally different game though - I dread to think what new species are awaiting discovery in some of those keyboards!!
