It always makes me laugh that you have these "ghosts" who could do anything they wanted yet find the most joy in turning on/off lights and knocking stuff off desks..

Maybe there's a secret collaboration.. An afterlife council, if you will.. That declares ghosts shall only partake in generic tom-foolery rather than make their presence known. For the lulz.

Those that disobey get forcefully 'crossed over' so that the people that go "I have a ghost, I can prove it!" gets taken to be a nutjob, as, due to the now absence of ghost, it cannot be proven.

My old local in England was supposedly haunted, being an old coach station. But despite spending MANY late nights there I never saw anything!

I've been to my local and had a few drinks then not been able to see anything either.. :drunken_smilie:

Just wondering if anyone has some good ghost stories about their school?

Of course not, there's no ghosts around here - they get scared off by the race of hyper-intelligent mice that live in the walls here, roaming the building at night and carrying off leftover food from the staffroom, snacks from classrooms and the occasional unwary child.

Our school is ~125 years old, built on the site of an old nunnery or something. I've heard people talk of a nun they've seen wandering the corridors or standing in the main hall.

I've been here 5 years and never heard/seen a thing, I am a supernatural supersceptic though...

My office is in the oldest building in the school, dated back to 1500s, our server room used to be at the top of the building (fourth floor, which was also the students quarters), after hours you definitely get the feeling you are not alone, I have never experienced anything the nights I have been here but when we had a power cut and I was shutting the servers down one night (no lights, just a phone) I defo had squeaky pants.

Thing is, our instincts are to look for danger/the unknown when it's dark. It kept us alive when we lived in caves. Now, it just makes us imagine/misidentify/make up floating nuns, headless monks and haunted dolls houses. Apply a sceptical viewpoint the next time you encounter something in your schools that could be explained by 'becoz ghosts!!12', go check it out and find out what it really is. If you get frightened to death, we can ascertain that there probably was something, and Science will benefit from your sacrifice.

I used to be 100% in agreement with this, however if multiple people have heard someone knocking at the window and kids laughing but there is no one there and nothing on CCTV you start to question it.

Still, to conclude that this is caused by ghosts is illogical, as ghosts are not proven to exist. Occam's Razor applies here. It is more likely to be caused by other factors know to exist, than by a a factor which is not known. I know it's easy for me to say, but I'm the opposite - I used to swear that this and that was haunted as a kid, but applying logic to the circumstances as I got older gives a different conclusion. However, if I could see and document an occurrence like this myself, with proof, then I could say that it was caused by a supernatural element. Modern Science is filled with aspects that would have seemed supernatural in the not too distant past.

The school only dates form the 1800s so not a lot of time for much to have happened. There was a suicide once but they didn't seem to want to stick around or they just haven't learned how to haunt yet. One area that burnt down sometimes still smells of burning wood - I've smelt it and you'd swear there was a nearby bonfire but the school have investigated just in case there was a fire again but never found where it comes from. Completely unsmellable even just outside the door to the room or the window

Our school is about 120 years old in a 150 year old building and there have been all sorts of talk of spooky goings on. Personally I have not seen or noticed anything but one day my wife visited and we walked around the school she got very spooked and went very cold when going in one room even though it was mid summer and could not explain it. I was stood next to her and didnt noticed anything!

Some of our teachers are obsessed with the idea that there is a ghost that haunts the area by our bike rack. It appears as a white apparition on the CCTV! My explaining that the reflection of a light into the CCTV camera's CCD would cause it falls on deaf ears.

I had teachers swearing that they had turned the PC's off when they left, but the were switched back on when they came in the next day. They swore it was ghosts... Turns out it was just my WOL script.

That is a fantastic demonstration of what I mean! I've achieved similar using AB Tutor Control too, scared some staff silly!

Sure it's not just teachers saying they've turned the PC's off? That's what happens here! :p

Heh yeah, we have a spider that lives in one of our cameras, it appears as a shining orb moving across the picture which certain people are convinced is a ghost :)

I love some of the stories. My school building is only 10 years old, so no ghosts here. The extraction system freaks me out when I'm in on my own though!

When I have been in empty schools previous, I have just scared myself with my stupid imagination.

Just had to post after skimming through,

well we have actually got CCTV of a white figure (blurred arms, legs head etc,,) in our corridors at night (about 3 seconds), this is god's honest truth and not just a blob in the distance- we (myself and my techy) used to show it to the students however some of them got a little bit upset by it so we decided that it was probably best not to discuss or show it any further,we came across it purely by accident when looking for some CCTV footage

now I don't really believe in ghosts Norton has the only ghost I got close to and have always put the video down to a trick of the light or reflection on the lens, that I'm sure it must be

I would post it the pic though no doubt I'd get in trouble for doing that

One thing we have considered is having a pentagon devils trap painted on the floor just through our office door under the carpet, but this would be for a few members of staff we are not sure about ;)

I'm sure we have a ghost at home, I can be sat there with a pint of beer next to me, next minute the glass is empty and I start to feel a bit light headed. I've tested it quite a few times and and the ghost seems to get more powerful as the evening goes on as I start to quite dizzy...

I mostly work in new schools so you would think no ghosts. I did work in a building from the 70's which is still "new" compared to others. Anyway nothing happened in the 70's building, but staff say its haunted I have never seen anything.

Something did happen in the new build, brand new school. I was working alone in the building, only one other person who was on the front desk (I checked the CCTV after), I heard voices like someone was talking in the room next door, this was on a sunday afternoon, So I went to the room, no one there. No voices either. Now this building is one level. I went back to get on with work, again I hear voices like someone is talking next door. I got up again, and the voices stopped. I looked in every room and no one was there. I decided the work could wait till Monday and went to another section of the school.

Two months later I hear staff talking about the cleaning lady who went into one in the same area of the school, screamed her head off and claimed she see a moving figure. ??????????? Make your own mind up.

I don't believe in ghosts in the sense that they walk about like people, but I think there is something there, even if its like the stone tape theory. I do believe live in god.
