Some lovely touches, great cameos and just generally nice to see that kind of film once again. Wreck it Ralph 2 Such a fun film. Better than the already excellent first film. Funny, clever, best visualization of the internet yet, plenty for the gaming fans to enjoy as usual. Go and watch it!
Jawloms Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 Psycho I'm not sure how, as someone who enjoys films, I got to the age of 42 without seeing it. Obviously I'd heard about it so knew what to expect at the end, but enjoyed it anyway.

Did you stay to the very end to see the Frozen 2 sneak peak trailer? Also saw Spiderverse, which was good, first comic book movie? Then I watched Stan and Ollie, last(ish) days of Laurel and Hardy as they toured Britain while trying to get a Robin Hood film made. Not quite historically accurate, but good.

LeMarchand Posted January 13, 2019 Author Posted January 13, 2019 Braven Jason Momoa finds his cabin in Newfoundland under siege from drug dealers who have stashed their product there. An 80s action movie throwback of the sort that would have starred a second-stringer back in the day. Not awful, but nothing special. Nice that the wife was capable of l;ooking after herself too, though. The ladies will be pleased to hear that, even in the snow, JM gets to take his top off.

Close Protection Officer Sam (Noomi Rapace) is assigned to protect a spoiled heiress, but it becomes apparent that someone wants the girl dead. Entertaining action thriller marred somewhat by the overly convoluted "mystery" at its heart. Although the characters were still able to take an incredible amount of punishment, it was nice to see a few shots pointing out that this stuff actually hurts.

witch Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Had the choice of Mary Queen of Scots, Glass, Stan & Ollie and Upside tonight, opted for a Mary and Lizzie showdown. Good film, not sure how historically accurate but at least some of the facts between who rules what are correct…this is how i get my England and Scotland history lessons as all these King and Queen so and so is rather confusing to me! Not at all accurate- they never met in reality! Two weeks running there has been nothing I want to see which is frustrating when you get free tickets! Might go and see Escape Room on Sat if I have recovered from BETT on Friday! Your comment about getting your history is EXACTLY the reason why I dont like historical films or films based on real events. They are ALWAYS economical with the actual facts and people come away thinking that what they saw is the truth...

Nothing about history is accurate though, whether in a film or in books, there's always something wrong. Doesn't matter if they met, it's one scene at the end of a film that's mostly metaphorical anyway. The director brought up a good point, why is everyone talking about this as the number 1 thing about the film? Some professor tweets something and then it's amplified by bored/lazy journalists. Latest movie (not last): Andaz Apna Apna, indian slapstick comedy. worst imdb top 250 film so far, not funny, very long. Kahaani was good, 3 idiots was ok, but this one was from the 90s, not good at all.

Garacesh Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Late to watch it, and even later to post about it, but I finally caught Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse on Sunday. Absolutely fantastic. Really captured the feeling of when I was a little boy reading comic books, the story was well-written and compelling, and they played the multiverse angle pretty well, and the characters had more depth to them (eg. rather than being evil for evil's sake) than I was initially expecting. Not entirely sure why they needed to include Spider-Ham.. Comic relief, I guess? But the film would have been fine without him. Loved the opening throwback to the Tobey Maguire movies though! Overall, definitely worth a watch, and finishes with an ending that leaves open the chance of a sequel but isn't too much of a cliffhanger (though does kind of fall apart if you think about it too much)

LeMarchand Posted January 27, 2019 Author Posted January 27, 2019 (edited) Thugs of Hindostan Imagine a Bollywood "Pirates of the Caribbean" set in a version of India that makes "Pirates" seem like an incredibly historically accurate documentary and you have something like "Thugs". The trailer is a little coy about it, but there are songs; though only really three proper song and dance numbers and two of these are "in movie" numbers (one of the characters is a singer/dancer) while the third could be seen as a celebratory sing-song. I quite enjoyed it, though like the "Pirates" series it does go too OTT and is way too long. Edited January 27, 2019 by LeMarchand

The trailer is slightly misleading, as events unfold in a linear fashion, which threw me a bit. Apart from that, and the intrusive and not particularly fitting music (it was pleasant enough, but just didn't fit the film), quite a good film. I was surprised that eyes in the house seemed fairly dry at the end, but the film-makers deployed a secret weapon. Be warned!
