Unsympathetic characters (one cop thinks choking a superior officer will cause a rethink, another joined the force for the aggro), unbelievable "action" and plotting and I sure hope poor Hayley Atwell got paid a lot for her nauseating sex scenes with Ray Winstone. Leave it, guvnor! Pain and Gain: Based on a true story about a group of particularly inept would-be kidnappers, this is fairly entertaining if you try to forget that a lot of this actually happened.
Arreks Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 American Sniper. Gripping, I'd say. There's nothing more gripping than further widening the social gap between the west and east. Dracula Untold: story was a bit all over the place but it gets points from me for depicting cool vampires.

Gone Girl - I know lets make a film about a murder/kidnap and then halfway through forget what were doing and just randomly end the film....
unixman_again Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Shame about "The Babadook". I like Essie Davis, although I haven't seen this particular film. You can see her on the small screen, Sunday's 12:55 in Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, which for some reason is showing on 5USA.

The man hits the booze and his life crumbles. He discovers his son's song recordings and learns them, playing them at an open mic night, piquing the interest of an audience member and fellow musician. He's badgered into forming a band, where they showcase his son's songs. The songs were written by his son, but he keeps this a secret. There's a reason for this, and it's quite a twist. The Judge. I'm not a fan of Robert Downey Jr, but he's very good in this. He's a lawyer and estranged son of a stubborn old judge. The judge is charged with running over and killing a recently-released criminal he sent down. It's a good story and well worth a watch. Edited February 23, 2015 by jinnantonnixx

Just watched this yesterday - very...... odd! Oculus - not a terrible horror film but not the best either. However wins points for staring the lovely Karen Gillan (Amy Pond in Dr Who) Jessabelle - deep south voodoo horror flick. Tough to figure out the ending but once you get it you actually think "not bad", worth a second watch

sparkeh Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 The theory of everything: Much deserved Oscar for Eddie Redmayne and an enjoyable watch but as it was someone's eventful life compressed into 2 hours it was a bit too much of a whistle-stop tour for me (this happens and its emotional, then this happens and its emotional, then this..etc. The End). Gone Girl: Really enjoyed this up until the last few minutes. Don't want to give spoilers in case you haven't watched it but it could have ended much better. 1

Last night I watched BlackFish - The documentary about the Killer Whales (why it's called BlackFish I have no idea) at SeaWorld in the US. Quite an interesting watch.

Fascinating, heartbreaking and makes you not want to visit Seaworld.

That's what I thought as well...but then I started digging into what happened after it and read a lot of interviews with the former trainers who were in the film who said they'd been mis-represented and that the vast majority of footage they provided wasn't used which spoke well of SeaWorld. 1
