aworkc Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 Argies to win with Belgium as an outside bet. Can see England just scraping through the group stage as runners up beat Columbia in the second round to be knocked out in the quarters by Brazil. You heard it here first I did the world cup predictor and got the same, although I had us beating Ivory Coast in the 2nd round 1
Zoom7000 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I got Switzerland from the work draw today They did beat Spain 1-0 at World Cup 2010
eyetea Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 We were holding a sweepstake here.. We pulled numbers out of a hat, and after everyone had a number the guys organizing it matched the number to a team. Turns out I drew out .... New Zealand! In the end the sweepstake was cancelled as no one could agree on how to redo it! People with Spain / Brazil / Argentina obviously didn't want to redraw, whereas people like myself wanted a redraw as we would be left with the teams that "only just made it in" kind of thing! Hoping England get to the semis, think Brazil will win with home advantage + used to humidity / heat.
aworkc Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 Daily Mail reporting that Lukaku may be out for the world cup with an ankle injury, that could be a huge blow for Belgium having already lost Benteke....... Although it is the Daily Mail so more than likely completely untrue

GREED Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Will the Dutch finally step up to the mark? Best team never to have won it. My usual thing is pick a team to support alongside England, for when England inevitably disappoint! Avid fan until the last but also a realist!
APMerry Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 They have as much truth telling capability as a corrupt politician And now you're telling me Politician's don't tell the truth! this is outrageous!

My usual thing is pick a team to support alongside England, for when England inevitably disappoint! Avid fan until the last but also a realist! I think as usual the dutch will self implode, a lot of talented players but no real teamwork.... I used to love them but after their performance in the 2010 final I've gone off them a bit. I'd love to see a European team win it as it seems that everyone has written anyon who's not south american off (including me as I'm predicting Argentina).
APMerry Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I'd be happy with Argentina winning it, they've flown under the radar a bit in recent tournaments.
rickjames Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Watching the game Saturday night was infuriating. Then again, it's England. Ah.
synaesthesia Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Hoping Iran win, as my team in our sweepstake! *cough*

Theblacksheep Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 (edited) Would like to see Fraser Forster feature in a few games for your mob. He was phenomenal in the champions league the last couple of seasons against Messi and the rest. I actually found myself wanting England not to concede because of the big man. Bit torn when Izzy went up the pitch and had a shot. Interesting England stat: Since the EPL began only 3 players that play outside of England have ever been selected: Beckham, Hargreeves and Forster. 6 players in the Spanish squad all play outside Spain, in this years squad. #EdugeekCelticSupportsClub Edited June 9, 2014 by Theblacksheep
tudorcrisp Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Did Mcmanaman or Owen not get selected when playing for Real Madrid? Interesting!!
aworkc Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 Did Mcmanaman or Owen not get selected when playing for Real Madrid? Interesting!! owen was only a Madrid for a year 04-05 so there wasn't a world cup at the time and Mcmanaman was there from 99-03 and wasn't selected for the 02 world cup.... Wikipedia
sparkeh Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Is it me or does Pele make ridiculous statements about England every World Cup: BBC Sport - World Cup 2014: England and Brazil's chances equal - Pele
Theblacksheep Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Is it me or does Pele make ridiculous statements about England every World Cup: BBC Sport - World Cup 2014: England and Brazil's chances equal - Pele His most accurate is on Mike Bassett.
Tesla Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I'm running the sweepstake for my work, i just picked out Chile, so definitely not a fix, and the first person to draw a team picked Brazil!!
rickjames Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I just looked at our 2010 squad for kicks. Effing hell we were awful.
aworkc Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 I just looked at our 2010 squad for kicks. Effing hell we were awful. Same will be said when we go into the next world cup if we struggle in this one.... The issue was that there were nowhere near as many young players coming through as we do now. It could still be a big risk taking as many kids as we have, difficult to keep your cool when you're out in that heat (Beckham '98)
featured_spectre Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 The only tournament where the England squad on paper was the strongest, was Euro 96...its the only one since WC 1966 that I would have bet my life savings on England winning. Alas the downfall was as always, penalties.
