Those images looks like someone has photocopied a newspaper article then photocopied the photocopy etc for about 50 times then given it you to look at.

At the risk of sounding controversial, perhaps it's a gender thing?

 

I don't know much about it but as a heterosexual female perhaps I'm naturally 'geared' towards picking up visual clues from Male faces?

 

It would be interesting to poll it to see whether there is a gender and sexual orientation link to how accurately we read visual clues from both genders?

 

Perhaps sexual orientation has nothing to do with it and there are familial or social connotations? Perhaps a man growing up with sisters might be better at reading female faces? I grew up with a sister and am better at males so maybe it's the opposite? Perhaps social group has a lot to do with it - I don't make friends with women easily. My social group is predominantly men so maybe that exposure makes it easier for me?

 

I don't know but I think it would be interesting to examine patterns across the people taking the test.

Did they ask actors to do them, did they ask the people who's pictures they took, did they show pictures to people and ask them to classify them and then use that classification as the basis for what the expression signified? I'd think it's more a bit of fun than seriously meaningful & rigorously scientific.

They look like stills from Black and White films or newspapers. If they're films I'd have to question the legitimacy of the expression.

It is called Mcroexpressions originally found in study in 60's but then expanded and made 'famous' by Paul Ekman and TV series Lie To Me. While the TV series was fictional and lot principles are the same. Microexpressions do not cover just eye but whole face but prinicples are the same. If interested in this kind of thing and the Ekman books are not a bad read... By the way my score was 29. Edited May 29, 2014 by russdev
