Until BT actually replace ALL copper lines with fibre in the year 2099, then we could all have more reasonable internet connectivity speeds. Don't get me wrong FTTC is a good start, however when that project is finished, BT will be forced to re-visit all streets again to route fibre directly into the home. Realistically most people will get anywhere between 20Mbps to 40Mbps (on average) with FTTC, but I think that'll be exhausted very quickly unless someone manages to squeeze more out of copper.

The thing that's mis-leading is the person writing the article doesn't know what they're talking about. The backbone could be 500Tbps for all I care Until BT change copper to fibre from A to Z, then receiving 200Mbps to your home/business would be a lot more realistic. The Flexigrid protocol does sound very backbone ish, unless it is indeed a protocol that can also run through existing exchanges over copper?

I think you're expecting too much too soon from them Regardless of wether we'll be able to support it anytime soon, or the fact that it'll be backbone tech - I do think it's pretty amazing, especially when you consider the fastest I can get at my home address is 11mbps - and that's on a REALLY good day.

Nothing fancy, we don't need the full speed, but just a single terabit would suffice for now errrr sure if you give me circa £500,000 for a CWDM 10gbit of the like On the flip side though as soon as your contract comes up we can give you better pricing straight away since the BT Openreach 100Mbit EAD LA's price went down quite dramatically a short while ago. Shame we are both tied into 3 years so we can't do it until then Are you going to upgrade to Lightspeed as per the migration pack we've sent you? Ta Dave

No problem whenever you are ready @localzuk I remember minehead being a terrible place to connect pricewise but we've a few more carriers we can use now so hopefully you'll get some much better pricing. I can only dream of 11 meg at home. Im stuck on sub 2 meg - about 1.8 on a good day! Half the town has been FTTC'd but no sign of us being done. We had a major line fault a few years back - 100k down & 350k up! That was a hellish 3 weeks

We have 2MB at best and watching Youtube is a rarity as it buffers every 30 seconds. We don't even have copper, only aluminium cabling! I even have to reset the router several times over the weekend as the connection drops. BT aren't interested in putting FTTC as it would only serve a couple of hundred houses.

xenonive Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) We need to get 5G mobile wireless here and not depend on BT for internet , South Korea have it running up to 10Gb/s while we can barely get 4G in the UK. I see use having 100mb low ping FFTC line for gaming , VOIP and video calls in home and large data traffic like TV and downloads where latency isn't issue over mobile data connection for the speed/bandwidth.
