CHR1S Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I have to change my car, a BMW 123d MSport 3 door for a bigger 4 door. My current ideal is a 70k 530d (I want some fun still) I do 6k miles a year and would like something with a bit of warranty (even 12 months) Anyone recommend any alternatives in the £13k area?
sippo Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Octavia VRS. Its what I have. Big enough for family, huge boot, economical.
CHR1S Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 Octavia VRS. Its what I have. Big enough for family, huge boot, economical. But its a Skoda...... 1
sippo Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 With a VW underneath. It all depends if you are a badge snob 1
L3OUGH Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I'd say an Audi A5 (Yes I drive a Audi,so I'm an Audi fan), but think they'd a tad out of price range even the older ones! The 5 Series BMW is deffo a good shout!
CHR1S Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 With a VW underneath. It all depends if you are a badge snob Yes, a little..... for my sins
abillybob Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 My Honda civic is great I have the three door but the 5 door 2.2 litre Type R and yes you can have a lot of fun now around £13k to buy not bad plus it's a Honda.... Once you go jap you will never go back! Forgot to mention boot space is huge can fit all family in comfortably and is very practical!!!
sted Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 With a VW underneath. It all depends if you are a badge snob with the vw based cars i know thats not a good think they break more than any brand i know including one 30 mins from new apparently they forgot to put an engine component in
Oaktech Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 But its a Skoda...... You won't say that when you've driven one...
Oaktech Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 For sheer reliability, Honda Accord estate. They are just lovely to drive (not fun, but comfortable) or a Saab TTID sportwagen (But, But TWO turbos!!!) and £35 a year to tax.
HallX Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Forgot to mention boot space is huge can fit all family in comfortably and is very practical!!! Might try this myself, I'll let you know what the missus thinks 1
CHR1S Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 I was kidding about the Skoda btw, the new one looks great! Someone here also said to look at the Alfa 159 1750 Ti Looks like im going on a lot of test drives!
Oaktech Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 The Alfa is the car your heart would buy, guarantee it, BUT they are so horribly unreliable. Makes me very sad.
crc-ict Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 A 525 Petrol. Rob Nah, you gotta love a bit of the derv! I've only got a Mondeo, but I still love the shove you get when the turbo kicks in. And somehow get a childish pleasure from the puff of black smoke that says you mean business!
abillybob Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Not to keen on the alpha's don't even think they look that pretty anymore just look like a souped up version of an old Fiat Punto! (My opinion though) and as @Oaktech said they are SOOOOO unreliable my dad had one from new and every 2months he was taking it back for a repair on something or other, hate the things with a passion he does! 1
twin--turbo Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Nah, you gotta love a bit of the derv! I've only got a Mondeo, but I still love the shove you get when the turbo kicks in. And somehow get a childish pleasure from the puff of black smoke that says you mean business! Nope at only 6K a year it's probably a false economy. I prefer power delivery that is consistent through the rev range rather than a dollop of boost halfway through ( I had a TDCI 130 Mondeo for a year ) . I am actualy taking ownership of a Passat TDi on the weeeknd whilst I do some jobs on my S-Type, but at £175 it will pay for itself easily. I was actualy at my garage this morning overhearing a conversation "the X3? Had to take the injectors out and send them for inspection" They get a large number of poorly high presure dervs through the door. Rob
CHR1S Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 My 123d is a diesel, twin turbo for that matter... one of the best engines I have ever used. Hence why im considering the 530d even with my low mileage.

Something like a Golf GTD 170PS will be fun and practical or look at something like a Passat W12
teejay Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Ordered a new Skoda Octavia Estate on New Year's Eve as the dealer was doing an amazing offer on them. I was going to get the VRS but made the mistake of taking Mrs Teejay with me on the test drive so have ordered the 2l turbo diesel SE instead

Hefferzzzz Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Audi A4 Avant S-Line Le Mans edition. 3.0 diesel. Looks superb on the outside, feels better than a BMW inside, goes like stink, loads of room, reliable.

Have to be careful with diesels if your doing low mileage, it would be a lot more fun and a lot better for the engine if you went for petrol if your only doing 6k miles a year
Gonk Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) How about a Seat Exeo ST? It's an Audi A4 under the skin. They have a decent spec and are relatively cheap! £11k will buy you this http://www.seat.ajax.ucl.r66.co.uk/carview.aspx?SearchType=National&SearchSubType=Not_Set&Approved=False&Location=SA61 1EF&Country_Id=34&Manufacturers=36&Derivatives=1300,1310,1320,1330,1340,1341&Fuel_Types=D&Kilowatt_To=2.0&Sort_Order=ASC&Sort_Column=Price&Distance=1000&SP=Seat.dbo.UCL_Select_Stocklist&Index=5&Id=604001187 Edited January 8, 2014 by Gonk
