Janyo Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could recommend (or have experience with) a good quality wireless network management for a small primary school in Kent (8 classrooms + office + IT room). At the moment, each class uses a home standard D-Link 7100ap router which are not up to their job at all! We have 2 trolleys of 16 laptops and 10 ipads which we use around the school and plan to purchase more tablets (30) to use around the school. While using ipads is fairly straightforward, loging in to laptops can take up to 7 minutes sometimes. Oh, we run RM CC4 accross the school. We have a technician who works 4 times a week up to two hours, so we are looking for something fairly easy to run and not heavy on maintenance. Thanks
stevenlong1985 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 (edited) Hi Janyo, me and a few other school on here would recommend "Ruckus Wireless" very good pricing and its very easy to set up and very low maintenance ! PM @Net-Ctrl They might be able to send you out a demo kit you could try Thanks Steve Edited November 29, 2013 by stevenlong1985 2
gtg93 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 +1 for Ruckus - wireless was patchy at best here until we put Ruckus in - touch wood not one wireless issue since. Pretty simple to use and there's a lot you can do with the system too. 1
tobiasclarity Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I back Ruckus as well, very good system does everything we need it to do from bandwidth capping to time restrictions 1
jamesreedersmith Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Ubiquiti Unifi - have a search of the forum. 1
Oaktech Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Yup... Ruckus if you have money, Ubiquiti Unifi if you don't! 1
Net-Ctrl Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Hi @Janyo we can certainly provide some help if you were interested. We survey, install, maintain and support Ruckus Wireless, who have some great bundles on at the moment that provide massive discounts for education sites. We can also get some demo kit out for you to test on your site. We also have 3 in-house wireless technicians that would be able to provide training on the system to you and your team. If you would like some more information feel free to PM me and I will do what I can to help 1
catch21 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Its quite an easy one, especially at the moment, you wont be making a mistake with Ruckus.
Davit2005 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Another vote for Ruckus. Dead simple to setup Wireless was near none existent in one specific area with the OLD kit.
ess2k Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Ruckus all the way, we had unmanaged Netgear before which struggled to cope with more than 15 laptops switched on at once in a class!!! We got given RM netbooks and had to upgrade the wireless system! Ruckus to the rescue!!!
achedgy Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 +1 for Unifi, much cheaper than anything else, provides all the functionality a primary will need and works brilliantly!! Got it deployed in 8 primary's and no stupid support contracts... Had Ruckus in one school, but slowly replacing it, too expensive for what it does
