I highly recommend NETWORK IT | ICT Services for schools in West Midlands we have used them for Ruckus wifi in many of out Academies within our Trust. Fantastic price and great personal service. At one of our schools we have around 300 devices connected to wifi not had a single problem (ok, may be had to restart the odd AP). Give them a try.

When I said I disabled the libraries, what I meant was I hid them from appearing in explorer, as i dont think you can completely disable libraries. so I dont think unhiding the libraries would really make a difference.
-
Unbelievable!!! I am using local profiles, so I modified the library files and copied them to the default user profile. they do copy over to the user profile when the user logs in and redirects to N: but the libraries are still bloody sloww!!! even though they pointing to the correct place. Some office applications still cant open or save as, and generate an error message. Dont know what else I can try. maybe a group policy rebuild? i dont know, its a daunting task and im running out of time Thanks for all your help guys.

Hi Arthur Thanks for the link, it looks very interesting, just a couple questions regarding it if you don't mind. I don't have roaming profiles set for staff and student users, only admin users, the link says to modify the library files for the server, wouldn't I need to modify the library files for the local machines? Hope this makes sense. Thanks

Initially yes, but then I started to separate the different settings to new gpo's disabling n enabling each gpo to narrow down where the problem lay. I did have my gpo migrated from server 2003, rather then setting it up fresh, did you set your group policies manually again when you set up sever 2012 r2?
-
I'm using server 2012 'r2 with Windows 7 sp1 n office 2013 proplus sp1 Is your setup exactly the same?

Hi All I'm facing a very frustrating issue for which I cant even seem to get a work around even. The problem is, when I redirect users and staff desktop to a unc path (\\servername\share) the document libraries become terribly slow. I have disabled libraries from the registry, but when I use office 2013 and i click file and open, or file and save as, the window opens with the slow libraries location as default or doesn't open at all. The moment I disable the desktop redirect gpo, the libraries and office works perfect. I really need to restrict access to desktop. Please anyone, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Saheed

Ruckus - Recommended installer for Gloucestershire
ess2k replied to hailstorm's topic in Wireless Networks
I wouldn't say Ruckus is the cheapest, but if you get hold of the special bundle they offer it can be. Our Ruckus install was done last year by Network IT24 from the West Midlands. Very helpful and competitive. They offer a cheaper WiFi solution to Ruckus as well but we went for the best based on the recommendations from here. -
Best Approach - iPads for Shared Usage
ess2k replied to Killer_Bot's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Interesting read, will be following up on this more, as our school had iPad minis for staff and are looking down the ipads for pupils route... Sounds like a lot more hassle for us guys. -
What an amazing bit of technology! Custom built PC or this??? Hmmmm....

we have had Ruckus in now for almost a year. Not one problem so far!, we went for the education bundle with 7982 AP's and the 5 years support included. (Don't think we will use it) It was installed in a tight time frame by the guys @NetworkIT24, Bryan knows his stuff! It was either Meru/AeroHive or Ruckus, a good friend at a local school had Meru and is still having problems after a year of being installed and numerous tech visits from the installers. Put us off big time, don't have the time to be diagnosing wifi issues every day of the week, we have over 120 netbooks/laptops.

Recommended Ruckus Wireless Provider - Staffs
ess2k replied to Techcare's topic in Wireless Networks
We went for the Ruckus Wireless education bundle 1x Controller (Zone Director 3000) 25x 7982 Access Point's (450mbps 3x3x3) We got a 5 year warranty aswell included with this offer! It cost us around £12k excluding the PoE switches. Amazing value for what we got, we still have a few Ap's spare too, as we didnt have anywhere else to install them. The wifi is amazing! we had Netgear before which was ok when we only had 15 laptops. But now we have netbook trolleys upstairs and downstairs and more laptops. We also had a look at Meru but was too expensive in comparison for the same thing and heard a few bad reviews from neighbouring schools. So went for Ruckus! No Looking back! The guys who installed it from Network IT 24 were great, they even gave us a courtesy call recently to check if we were happy! Obviously I am as the wifi works and the staff are not doing my head in! -

MSI's....Had similar issues, but checked all the gpo settings and checked that the gpo is assigned to the right ou, three restarts later. software installing! Always a bit of pain rolling these outs.

Ruckus all the way, we had unmanaged Netgear before which struggled to cope with more than 15 laptops switched on at once in a class!!! We got given RM netbooks and had to upgrade the wireless system! Ruckus to the rescue!!!

New Wireless Network needed - Recommended Companies anyone?
ess2k replied to ess2k's topic in Wireless Networks
Hi Guys! Quick update! Ruckus has been great, no issues what so ever! Can handle any amount of RM Netbooks, iPad minis and old dell laptops we throw at it! Great stuff! Much better than the old system we had! Our partner school is scrapping there Meru system and going for exactly the same system as us now! 7982 Ap's with a ZD3000 Controller!!! -
Sophos - whats the attraction / whats the alternative ?
ess2k replied to VeryPC_Ed's topic in Enterprise Software
Certainly agree with you there 'MattX' We have been with Kaspersky awhile now! and its loads better! -
We have been using Kaspersky in our Primary school for over three years now, others I know recommended Kaspersky! Previously we have used Symantec and Sophos and found them a bit rubbish as the years have gone on. We had a price from our local lea which was ridiculous, but then got a very good price from a supplier called Network IT 24. If your using another brand at the moment you will get a much better price off Kaspersky too! I think they want you to see how good there product is compared to the other top AV providers! I love the management console and its so easy to deploy the software to clients! and the support is great too!!! not that its been needed much!

New Wireless Network needed - Recommended Companies anyone?
ess2k replied to ess2k's topic in Wireless Networks
Thanks for all the input guys, we have had a few quotes, Network IT 24 were by far the best value and they have installed a demo kit for us! Its working great so far! and no complaints from staff so far, So I think we will be going with them... Thanks again. -
Hi Guys! Our current wireless solution is getting a bit old now, and giving us a few problems with speed and reliability. (netgear) I would like to get a survey done soon to identify what would be best and would prefer a company who is local to me (for onsite support purposes if anything goes wrong!) We are in Smethwick, West Midlands and are a three form entry school. I have heard a lot of good about Ruckus Wireless and Meru but would prefer Ruckus because of recommendations from other techys who are using it at the moment. Look forward to your recommendations... Thanks
