BT or SKY broadband..............?

I am near to moving house and where i am going to live does not have Telewest/Virgin available..... SO i need to change provider.

 

The phone line will be with BT so i need advice/opinions on whether to go with BT's own broadband or to go with Sky broadband.

 

I will be having Sky installed for the football so having the Broadband as well is an option.

 

Your opinions please?

You do realise that you don't have just those options?

 

A BT line means you can have pretty much any ADSL provider...

I have SKY and not really had any problems, does seem to be a better deal than BT to be honest. I have heard they do tend to screw up the migrations sometimes (mine was ok) and not sure where the actual blame lands here.

I would say sky. The BT Homehub is a piece of tat. Constant lock ups and manual cold reboots plagued my time with BT.

 

I have a friend with Sky who has had not had any trouble.

 

Then again, I'm with Orange and have not had any problems either (even though they are supposedly constantly having problems).

My orange broadband has been ace, never had more than a few hours of downtime and that only happened once in the past 14 months.

 

Personally I wouldn't touch SKY, just don't like the company.

Sky use a butchered Netgear router with their own firmware which can be a pain in the back side at times.

I would say neither - Freedom2Surf or UKFSN. Bare in mind f2s have been bought by Tiscali though so their future is uncertain at the moment.

I have Sky Broadband installed and I know a few other people with it. For £10 you can't go wrong.

I've had sky for almost year now, and the day the contract runs out, will be cancelling it. After the install our phone stopped working, after 15 fault calls to BT, including them digging up the drive and half the street to run a complete new line, they concluded it was sky's fault. Sky disagreed. "If your broadband works, then its BT's problem, there is no way our equipment can affect the phone line" Eventually got them to agree to a re-install, problem solved. (If insist to speak to somone in tier 2 support, then they are reasonable)

 

As for the broadband service itself, we have to re-set the router about once a day, as it just grinds to a halt. Very ocasionally we can manage a week with reasonable service.

 

At my girlfriends house the service is more reliable, alghough the install still took 2 months, as they kept failing to send out the router! - It is possible to use your own, by extracting the username and password from the netgear one.

 

I think its a case of you get what you pay for. If you want a good quality service, with good support, then you're gonna have to pay for it. If you just want a basic service, which works most of the time, go for sky. I would assume their installations will be a little smoother now, as they have caught up with the backlog.

BT = £15/month, Sky=£0. Decision made, IMO.

 

Once it was up and running, we've not had any problems with the service (although there was an installation glitch which they blamed on BT and BT blamed on them, but that was sorted in a few days, IIRC).

 

Now that the initial mad rush is over, you may find the installations are a bit better, too.

Just my 2p... it seems not every sky customer can get free broadband as i've been looking into this recently as i'm few up of onetel.

 

The free broadband is only available to 69% of the country i was told, they wanted £17 per month off me ontop of the £20odd i already pay them.

I want to go with sky but unfortunately they do not have their equipment at the exchange so it will cost me an extra £17.95 for broadband along with the £38 + £11 BT line rental package that they are currently advertising. Currently with Zen for broadband at £25 and talk talk for phone at £25 per month +£11 BT line rental which is approx £5 cheaper than sky but with no television.

 

Frustrated!!!!!!!
