DELL Monitor Shortage?

Anyone else here finding problems with ordering Dell monitors?

Just recieved some Dell PCs that should have had 17" AIO monitors, but instead came with 17" Wide screen TFTs. ( which can be rotated ) After contacting my Sales Manager ( 3rd party ) I have been told that Dell have big supply problems and currently the AIO have a lead time of 60 days!

The Dell Schools Team were advising people to order early this year as they were expecting a shortage. They never gave me a reason though...

I know of a school that ordered 20 Dell laptops at the beginning of July, and they are due in sometime in October now.

Similarly, I have two laptops that I have had on order since 8th July. They are now due in on 24th September.

My supplier (3rd party) suggested that they might have some Athlon processor laptops in a warehouse somewhere, and they may be able to ship those out sooner.

Eventually, the shortage is going to hit every computer manufacturer. It's just that Dell make them to order, and so they are feeling the effects first.

I think we've been lucky, we had all 125 dell PCs delivered with monitors at the beginning of august. Feel sorry for you guys waiting for them tho :(

I suspect that we're at one of the change over periods; 17" monitors are on the way out and 19" ones are coming in.

There were similar shortages when the change of "standard" from 15" to 17" happened.

22,000 monitors sounds like a lot but it's less than 2 weeks output for Dell.

Funny you should say that. Someone I was speaking to was saying the reason Dell are having so much trouble is that they only tend to order two weeks of monitor stock at a time, based on what they think they will need.

There ha been quite a shortage on 17" TFTs across the board. Widescreens are readily available at a good price but if you want standard 17" TFTs, prices have increased a lot over the last 6 weeks due to supply problems.

Rumour is that 17" will be phased out soon for 19" Not sure that this will be favourable for schools though because obviously space is an issue with so many of you

We are waiting on about 75 of them from Dell for our AIO's. An earlier batch came fine but these lot are going to be at leat a few weeks yet

Only problem is we had already got rid of the equipment they were replacing so we are now stuck with the actual towers themselves and no screens...whoops

As already mentioned 17" 4:3 panels are in constraint and dell probably did not forcast enought stock. What you have to remember is that it is 4 weeks shipping plus any assembly time from the manufacturers to dell.

Sorry to bump in here, but those looking for good screen in general, this months (and next) HP offer sheet has 3 TFTs on it, just bought one of the 20" Widescreen ones and with cashback on it it wil have cost £140, and its not just a normal widescreen 20" TFT, its a super duper one which pivots, swivels, turns, makes cups of tea and has a USB hub in it as well.
