Air compressor for cleaning computers

What static electricity? Leave it plugged in so the case is earthed if you're paranoid about it.

 

Hadn't realised the dyson was only good for 15 mins, although if it's any good it will clear a few PCs in that time.

 

Yes because we all know what to you when you ground yourself after building up static electricity, crack. Which is why electronic components can be killed by it.

 

The moving air in the vacuum can create high levels of static which is why specific anti-static ones are available for these purposes.

It's sat behind my desk. I am not allowed to use it during term time so it will have to wait until next week (yes, we break up on Friday!)

We have one of these as well, it's all you need, too powerful and you will end up damaging something.

How long have you had this Chris? Just read the reviews and one of them pretty much says that it died really quickly when being used for a student ICT Suite!

We take every computer & keyboard outside, clean & dust out using one of these.

Our cleaners then clean all the desks, mice and screens (all glass fronted) and we put back and image the PC's every summer.

 

 

September - each dept gets a bill for damages / replacements.

Probably had it for 2 years of regular use, if people have had issues with them I would imagine they are using them for too long as like all compressors etc they do have a duty cycle of how long you should use them for.

i just bring mine from home over the summer done this last year when the server room was kitted out to be a server room and then i got the lesson dont de dust servers in a closed room with a busted extractor fan

We've had our datavac over a year and it's seen some *really* heavy use. No problems at all. It even feels unlikely to fail, like it's carved from a lead block.

What about water vapour being created?

 

Is this syphoned off by a filter as I seem to remember when using and designing compressed air systems for pneumatic equipment that we had to fit a hydro-vane system with a separate air dryer unit with filtration system.

 

Obviously it was on a large scale but all the same water vapour is produced when creating compressed air as is the nature of the element "H2O" water has to go somewhere

You can get a compressor and Airbrush, the sort used for spaying cars etc. for between £35-£50 on ebay. These should be fine for blowing the rubbish out of a PC.

That one is noisy as hell.

 

We have one for our laser cutter and it's in its own cupboard.

I use the full 120psi at around 25cm range. Done quite a few now and no problems yet.

Just fyi school insurers love pressure vessels. Not. So be careful.

It's impossible to 'pop' that thing anywhere! It's been in that location since it arrived and we're going to build the new ventillation cupboard around it i think.
