Google Earth can't contact authentication server - SWGfL issue or more?

Can I ask if someone at a SWGfL connected school and confirm for me if Google Earth works okay for you. As in the title, none of the PCs on our site with it installed will connect back to Google's authentication servers. I will be contacting them (SWGfL) but wanted to see first if anyone else is experiencing the same fault.

 

Of course, I did suggest to our Geography department they could instead use Google Maps but they prefer Earth.

seems to "work" here i just suspect the video card on this pc sux its white n yellow then brakes up as you zoom in

with the SWGFL issues not only is out staffproxy failed but it's broken our website AND stopped google earth. I talked to service on the 13th about this!

 

oh yes they said to me explicitly that they have broken google earth.

Well at least i know we're not the only ones now. They are close to useless. Our website wasn't working this morning - it was a known issue and they failed to let us know beforehand but to be fair, they did contact us when they fixed it.

Not on SWGFL but ours has randomly stopped working too, same error. Noticed if you download the latest version there is a new option in the tools, general menu which forces you to us a secure connection. If I tick this box it works.

Nice to have a work around - well spotted thank you. Is there a way to have this box ticked for all users as default?

Once i set it on the admin account, it was ticked for everyone else that logged in, if you want to push it across to all machines i guess you'd have to find the registry entry and apply through gpo. I've only done it on a couple manually.

Still a problem for us as we block all HTTPS traffic and so cant use the workaround mentioned. Hopefully SWGFL will resolve this sooner than later

Found the Registry located at: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Earth Plus is a String called 'useHTTPSForGoogle' set to false by default.

Also, has anyone else had problems with mail?

 

We jumped ship from SWGfL in august, but we've been having problems sending and receiving mail to SWGfL schools. People get bouncebacks from SWGfL mailer daemon saying mail is delayed then they never get an NDR and we never get the message. We get no notification at all, our messages just disappear into the ether.

Also having this problem in SEGfl, Google Earth loads up and the view is just blank. Tried the https workaround and adding various addresses to our proxy exclusions, but no joy. Anyone have any luck with SWGfl?

ssl.google-analytics.com and maps.google.co.uk

 

We were also advised to pass through the following domains too (although these didnt resolve the issue until we added the two addresses above):

tools.google.com

clients1.google.com

clients.google.com

pack.google.com

earth.google.com

accounts.google.com

Thanks for the reply. Tried those and hasn't seemed to have helped. One site i was looking at mentioned setting kh_pro as a valid user agent within my proxy's settings, but I don't not what that means/how to do it. Any other ideas?

I have tried all the above but to no avail. Google earth works at home but not in school. Tried going through the staff proxy, adding exceptions, ticked box for secure connection. As with Phildw wonder how to set kh_pro as a valid user agent so I can try this.

 

Any more ideas?
