I would rather stab myself in the eye's with cocktail sticks steeped in surgical spirit repeatedly than watch this excuse for music!!!

This is only my personal opinion, nothing personal :D

I am suprised that this contest is still going to be honest, most of its a stitchup nowadays and blatantly so, even moreso I think I am horrified that we pump millions into it with the BBC

I love Eurovision :) Not the music mind but the kitsch and cheese and politics! It seems unlikely that we will win it again any time soon but you never know.

.

I don't think it costs millions to show it as its put together by the EBU but if you win it can be expensive to stage it. Rumour has it that when Ireland won it twice (or was it three times ?) in the 80s that it nearly bankrupt the state TV company!

All that will happen is that central European countries will vote for each other.....

No change there then! Mind you there has always been a bit of that since it started although with different countries

Legalised/promoted xenophobia and racism. Eurovision can do one. Until many of these countries governments/inhabitants grow up and act in a manner fit for the modern world the utopian ideals that suit Eurovision would never work. Edited by synaesthesia

Big Four/Big Five

Since 2000, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Spain have automatically qualified for the final, regardless of their positions on the scoreboard in previous contests, due to their status of being the four biggest financial contributors to the EBU.[50] As a result, these countries became known as the "Big Four".[72] Germany became the first "Big Four" country to win the contest since the rule was made in 2000, when Lena Meyer-Landrut won the 2010 Contest. On 31 December 2010, it was announced that Italy would automatically qualify into the final, thus joining the other four qualifiers to become the "Big Five".[73] This rule has caused controversy; Turkey withdrew from the 2013 Contest with the status of the "Big Five" being one of the reasons cited.[74]

Eurovision Song Contest - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - it was a big controversy about 5 years back that we plough I think it was about £100 million into that via the BBC (don't quote me on the amount though there)

Nobody watches Eurovision for the music, they watch it for the commentary. I think Graham Norton stepped into that role quite well. :)

I love Eurovision night! Again not for the music but for the wonderful 'drink along with Eurovision' game!

Pick a nation (except your own) make a five litre box of suspiciously strong fruit punch. And take a drink for every single point your nation collects! It soon becomes a great night!

I'm going to say something completely unconstructive..... Eurovision = Meh!

I read that as Eurovision = Meth and thought "well that's one way of coping I guess."

I've watched every year since 1967 (Puppet on a String) and I've yet to pick the winner. I did predict Jemini would get nul points with Cry Baby. This year I think Germany will win with
. It's the highlight of the TV year.

Surely though, that means you don't drink throughout the tedious, vomit inducing singing (which is the worst part), then get battered for the remaining 20 or so minutes while people in each country just read the results out?

You have pre drinks during the comedy singing and then in the hour or so that it takes to get the scores in you get utterly trollied. It makes the whole thing worth while. Unless like my missus, you accidentally pick the winner. In which case you might be off to A&E instead!

I'd rather neck a 2L bottle of Vodka before the show starts and get rushed off to A&E for alcohol poisoning than watch Eurovision... ;)

played this game once when was round a friends house and it happened to be on. We played with these rules...

Everyone has to be drinking pints to play the game.

1. Everytime your chosen country is mentioned, drink two fingers of the glass

2. Nobody is allowed the UK so when it gets mentioned drink four fingers

3. If your country wins you have to down a pint of mixed drinks from every player. (not nice when everyone is drinking different drinks!)

4. If a non English speaking country as its first language sings in English then drink a finger.

5. If any of the presenters change outfits during the show then drink half a pint.

6. make up any as we go along.

Thats the only time ive watched it and had more fun with all the fun we had drinking than actualy watching it.

If you're really clever you'll get someone to count all the drinking you need to do then you can talk to others who dont like it either.

Whilst not EuroVision, have a look at my London 2012 Games Maker friend Cassidy, and her Super Bowl 2013 Drinking Game

(I am sure it can be easily adapted for EuroVision!)

She is just full of life (or Mountain Dew!) and her VLOG'ing skills are fantastic.
