Granted I didn't read the story throughly this morning, but I've always read this type of thing as "you were around at the time, do you know anything about it?"

 

Until I see a story saying he was arrested, I'm [perhaps wrongly] assuming innocence.

I thought that one was supposed to assume innocence until conviction.

 

Anyway, guess this confirms those rumours from last year about Rolf being pulled in.

It is, but with things like this it seem to be "no smoke without fire".

 

Even when people are found innocent there's people who still think they're guilty.

I don't want to believe it of Rolf though, I don't though I think my personal "I'm giving up on humanity" moment would be if Tony Hart's name got dragged into it.

According to the news article in the OP, he was actually arrested rather than just being brought in for questioning. This means they must have some evidence which leads them to beleive he might be guilty, as otherwise they'd just bring him in as a witness/reference surely? I'm not saying he's definitely guilty (how could I know?) but the fact that he was actually arrested is pretty worrying.

This is the second time he has been arrested, this time released on bail, his house was searched previously. It's nice to think that your childhood favorites were innocent and clean living, the reality is that were probably were not.

 

As Jimmy Saville said "It was fun while it lasted!", now it's catching up on them all.

Technically, arrest !== guilt either... altho these days I think 'guilt' is determined by a quick glance at twitter trends anyways.

He's done well so far. He's been interviewed on more than one occasion and this hasn't made the newspapers, raising questions about a media blackout.

 

But its the double standards which bother me the most. When Saville was implicated ITV news couldn't wait to point score against the BBC and lead with it. But when Fred Talbot (of Richard and Judy outside weathermap dancing fame and lead weatherman on Granada News) was wanted for historical abuse allegations and subsequently went abroad, ITV went quiet. Same with the two Corrie actors (Frank Foster and Kevin Webster), nothing more than brief mentions.

 

What will they do with Rolf? With ITV lead with "BBC Animal Hospital presenter Rolf Harris"? Will BBC counter with "ITV presenter from Rolfs Cartoon Time"?

There are 3 threads to Op Yewtree

1. Actions by Saville

2. Allegations against Saville and others

3. Allegations against others unconnected with Saville.

 

So potentially he could have been nicked for either of the last 2. Arresting him would give them time to interview him and make sure he doesn't disappear by putting him on bail.

 

It seems that if you were famous in the 1970s then you are fair game. I wonder if any of this will come back to bite the Met on the backside!

Given what you read in rock star memoirs (Led Zep et al) - you'd think they'd have collared a few of them too (G. Glitter not withstanding)...

Sad situation as many of these people are national heroes. However, if they are guilty of sexual offences fair cop but I do wonder about all this - which national icon of that era will be besmirched next Benny Hill hasn't been in the news recently and he was responsible for the Fastest a milkman in the west?
