Add members to an Office 365 distribution group with powershell.

There's 2 ways to connect to office365 through powershell.   MSOL Exchange online.   You can add members to a security group using MSOL but you have to use EOL for distribution groups or mail-enabled security groups.   At this juncture I only know how to get user data using msol.   (we use -like @ domain because pupils have a different subdomain)     #connect MSOL connect-msolservice get-msoluser -all | where-object {$_.userprincipalname -like "domain"} | export-csv -path "d:\staffe

Network Policy

Does anyone know standard policy and procedures for the storage and management of network passwords? We need to review as only one person has access to all systems and in the event of his illness or absence we are limited.   What is the law on documenting passwords and system accees by/for network managers? Yes, unfortunately, we have got into this discussion.

RM Unify Question.

We are in the process of having RM Unify setup for us and wanted to know other people’s experiences with the process.   The first stage of Federating between Progresso, AD and RMU went OK but we have not really tested the user provisioning side of it yet.   The next phase is to Federate against our G-Suite tenancy and to be honest this is filling us with dread.   We are a MAT and to some part we have set up our G-Suite to reflect this. Our G-Suite has 2 domains, 1 of which is a secondary doma

Office 365 & iSAMS

We have recently purchased the whole suite of Office 365 for Education and I have been given the responsibility of training, integrating and utilising every aspect of the application to improve college systems. I am currently looking at Teams / Notebooks / SharePoint and Forms. I also want to integrate with iSAMS using the Data Sync module in office admin.   Anybody got experience of the above, and could give me some tips/ pitfalls to watch out for - this is a long project.

User A can open a 365 Shared Mailbox but User B can't (Outlook 2010)

Hi All,   Bit of an odd thing came up today. Now that we are on Office 365, we make all of our new Shared Mailboxes within 365 itself, rather than creating them locally and migrating them like we do with new users.   A few days ago we made a new shared inbox for our Junior School receptionists to share, but we found that while they could both open it within 365 Outlook, only one of them has been able to do so within the Outlook 2010 application. I myself have also tried to do it and cannot ac

Break Down Big Tasks Into Smaller Chunks

One important principle in learning time management for students is learning how to break down big tasks into smaller doable tasks. Don’t you sometimes avoid a task because its way too big, overwhelming, or just takes too much of your precious time? Or you often find yourself feeling frustrated or tired when you work on a current task or project for so long with no break? Yet you feel like you’re actually going somewhere due to the huge chunk of time devoted on that one task. You know if you k

Leaving education to start a business

I was a Network Manager for many years. I created the Freeperiod room booking system to solve the problem of room booking for the school I worked. One thing lead to another and now Freeperiod is a business.   The biggest surprise to me when leaving my job as Network Manager was not business related. It was the loss of being part of a school community were I played a very important role. Schools are like little villages and it is quite strange to transition from the village to the office. Noise

OLD - Office 365 (Click To Run) - (407) Proxy Authentication Required Error

Please see: https://github.com/DJ-1701/407WorkAround for latest instructions.                       So, you've followed the instructions for deploying Office 365 Pro Plus with Device Based Activation... most likely from an online instruction, such as this awesome one… but, when you come to running the OPPTransition.exe you get a problem that looks a little like this one...   C:\O365>OPPTransition.exe -Tenant TENANTUUID -Key KEYUUID -Domain contoso.onmicrosoft.com 00:00:00 | OPPTransition s

With student monitoring software, how to keep students on task and save class time?

Digital classrooms with access to internet give students numerous opportunities to be distracted from their tasks at hand. Cryptonight News

Word is that Haven Protocol (XHV) is a decent CPU/GPU currency to mine at the moment. Cryptoknight.cc reports it's profit as around $2.60 KH/$/Day but you have to remember Haven uses cryptonight-heavy which means 1KH is 2-3 times as much power as normal cryptonight coins e.g Monero.   Also worth a look is a Brazillian cryptonight coin called Niobio, although I haven't managed to find a remote daemon link for it as the wallet itself had a problem downloading the blockchain. But you can sell i

Power Shell Script for Automatic User Creation in AD

#Updated 2018/08/30: Fixed a bug where it didn't count the number of newly created users correctly. Fixed another bug with the continue statement not working as intended when finding an invalid grade     I wrote this Power Shell script to automate user creation in Active Directory. It's run off of a scheduled task and maintains a log file of everything it does. It handles pretty much everything:   Copies the export and names by date, also names log by date for easy sorting and retent

Selling computing power.

What I need is a company that comes to school and says.   We want to rent some of your computing power to do "work", you'll get a percentage of the value of the "work". Due to the market the value of the "work" changes but you'll always get more than you would spend in electricity. All you have to do is install our client on your computers. We'll send you a monthly report of how much "work" your computers performed, the cost of the electricity and how much we'll pay you for the work. It

Childhood computing (and VTech, if anyone's nostalgic about it)

VTech and computing I don't think I've met anyone else who is several years older than me, as a 22yr old who remembers the time before your parents granted you a computer; you had something less advanced, yet you still did the usual computing stuff.   The brand in particular may very well be familiar to you as a child. VTech is known for their Laser 128, IQ Unlimited and the like. But in this case, I'm talking about the I.T Unlimited and the I.T Laptop and the Impact. These are kids toys, ye

Fix'er Up'er (Fizzbook Hell)

I realised the plague of Fizzbooks being problematic here on this forum. It's no wonder those have ever been abandoned and in some cases, put up on eBay for someone else to suffer with more problems. But that wasn't the case for me. Prior receiving my Fizzbook Spin NL1 from eBay, I had one from Argos. Knowing myself in 2009 and all, I ended up with a ThinkPad SL510 from the refund, which had it's own issues lead to its demise of a dying motherboard as of 2017.   This one had issues, mainly BSOD
