We've recently migrated a file shares from a 2008r2 server to 2019 server. Just a lift and shift of the drives and reconfigure the shares. Everything is working except scanning to one folder...
We have two scan to network folders set up, one for teaching staff and one for the admin staff Both on the same server, both with the same share permissions and both with the same security permissions. However, scanning to the folder for the teaching staff is working fine but scanning to the admin st

It's taken me 3 hours to figure out that the scheduled task command
powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -file .....
No longer works as intended. Although it allows the powershell script and by extension ninite pro to run, something is getting blocked.
If I run the ninite command on the command line it works fine. If I run the powershell command on the command line, the script runs
I've been looking for a cloud backup provider for a bit, but to be honest, I've been busy, other things on my plate, etc, etc (always an excuse!). I've also been looking at implementing Chromebooks because of their simplicity and the cost - but of course you need G-Suite for that. So, even though we're fully signed up and committed to Office365 I pushed through an application and this got agree a couple of months back by the nice people at Google - why can't we somehow use both?. And, the 'Un
As a school we are starting student Surface Go devices in September. The intention is to hybrid join through InTune which on a few practice machines has had varying results. We have manged to successfully create an Autopilot configuration, with devices connected to InTune and on-site AD, also moving to the correct organisational unit. The problems seems to be group policies as policies from both Intune and GPO AD are being applied. This is ok for devices on site however when students are of
Just documenting this in case some other poor soul is stuck running this garbage and needs to move it from one Windows Server install to another...
I have the bad luck of still having to support this and it was originally loaded on a 2003 x86 server that was upgraded in place to 2008 x86. It's now 2019 and server 2008 will no longer be getting security updates past January 2020. There is no migration path from 2008 x86 to something newer. So, WCS needs to be either moved or reloaded onto s
This is probably more for my benefit than anyone else's, but who knows, it might help someone!
So, it's been a little while since I rolled out Windows 10 to staff, and needed a new image, for both staff and students. I'll use this blog to note my successes and inevitable failures on the journey to getting a working, student safe Windows 10 image.
Getting Windows 10 without inBuilt Apps
First up, we need a Windows 10 image, and since the latest one seems to not delete My Documents on a w
Have requested this as a new feature to be added to excel online but as always it needs votes. Please can people vote to get this feature added as it is needed for my end users to work online.

Thanks in advance.
When in Edit Local Users and Groups, I cannot select and apply the setting "User cannot change password". The account is a local administrator. I get the error message attached in the photo when I click Apply.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can enable this setting or what could be preventing it from applying?
Thanks!
When installing Windows 10 the default mail icon is always on the taskbar. I ran a PowerShell script to remove the icon from the taskbar, which I thought would remove it for all users. But it only removed it for the administrator logon that I used to run the PowerShell script. Does anyone know how to hide this icon for all users?
Thanks!
When trying to open Outlook in Windows 10 Enterprise v1903, I am receiving the error messages shown in the screenshots attached..
Does anyone know what could be causing these messages to come up when launching Outlook, and why Outlook closes shortly after launch as well.
It seems as though Outlook does not seem to be able to make the connection to our mail server.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks!
Hi
We have new stand alone laptops that we just need to have notepad on for exam purposes - on the APP listing it shows things like X-Box, My Phone which we want hidden. Have asked a friend who suggests:
Open the Windows 10 Search Bar, and type in PowerShell. Right-click the PowerShell app and click “Run as administrator”. Type the following command and press the Enter key: Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxApp | Remove-AppxPackage Wait until the process is finished. It should only take a few
This is a utility that I wrote in VB .Net 2010 a number of years ago. It's basically a wrapper application for TightVNC that allows me to remotely control client computers in the domain (think Team Viewer). The inspiration for this came from an older application called 'Gen Control' that basically does the exact same thing, but only worked for Windows XP and earlier. As of this writing I can verify that it works on all version of Windows Vista through 10 1809.
This is what it does in a
We have now been with RM solutions since last summer and have just signed a one year extension. Anybody have a view on this company? Hasn't been great so far.
Just a quick blog post about an issue that has taken me 2-3 hours to research, and about 10 seconds to fix!
In a nutshell, tried to rebuild some laptops using MDT/WDS. Kept failing to load the boot image, kicking to Boot manager with the error message: A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.
Tried rebuilding the deployment share - No dice.
Deleted and readded the boot wims into WDS - No dice.
Went through various drivers (we have FAR too many) and removed a great swathe -
In Word 2016, when navigating to open from the File menu, the options for Add a Place and OneDrive do not appear.
Does anyone have any ideas about what might be causing this?
Thanks,
We have recently had to install Flash Player in order to fix an issue with certain interactive items included with software not showing up because of the lack of a flash Plugin in IE.
This has been installed, enabled in IE and now the interactive items are showing up.
However now that the Shockwave Flash Object add-on is in IE, we are just wondering if this is a possible security issue that could make using IE unsafe, in terms of being vulnerable to malware or hacks etc.

These days fiber optic cables are used everywhere to connect our modern world and are able to send information across countries and vast oceans, but how do they work? Before we get too stuck in to the more technical stuff, why not check out the video below for a nice, simple summary of how it all comes together.
How They Work
Fiber optics are fairly simple to understand on a basic level. Essentially information in the form of light is sent from one place to another, this is generally done
So it was always my impression that one of the benefits of virtualization was less disasters and easier recovery. And practically the only way to loose a virtual server would be either accidently broke windows or the SAN broke. In any other circumstance the VM could be recovered from the SAN. We have a backup NAS for the most important VMs as a means for fast recovery in case of accidental breakage. Important Vms like print server or Domain controller. Other things It wouldn't be disaster to h
So you’re sitting there and wondering to yourself, Single-mode, Multimode. What’s the difference? Well wonder no more the answer you’re looking for is just below, but first let’s briefly discuss fiber optics in general.Fiber optics is essentially sending signals in the form of light, down very thin strands of glass or plastic. The light is sent down the center of the fiber known as the core. The core is encased in an optical material called “cladding”. The cladding ensures the light remains tra
