Hello folks, We have a site-wide Meru wireless network. Our support contract for the controller and APs is due for renewal. Is there a company that anyone can recommend to provide this? We were previously doing it directly with Meru, but since Fortinet took over we've had difficulties with their support website recognising any of our serial numbers or being able to ring anyone. Any recommendations? I'm presuming everyone does keep their kit fully covered? Thank you.

Hi all, I *may* have landed myself a nice little job developing a CMS for somebody, however I've not done it before so was looking for some pointers from those of you that have. Based on what I've read here, I've set my initial fee at £200 for a CMS with up to 5 pages, with each additional page costing £20. I was thinking about a £25 flat rate for any changes in design after the initial setup (thought about giving a 1 week "cooling off" period where I'd do things like that for free - good idea?) Hosting will be provided by a reputable host; I'll recommend three (they'll want that for their VFM forms) and arrange for them to pay the host directly and pass on the login details to me. So far so good? Also, I was wondering if anybody could share any insight as to obstacles I may not have thought of? Is there a kind of generic service contract out there I can use as a basis to draw up my own contract? Appreciate any and all help!

Anyone had to buy themselves out of a managed service contract. Someone I know (yeah it really isn't me) has just signed a 3 year contract without getting 3 quotes first as the supplier put frighteners on them saying contract would run out. They've signed what appears to be grossly overpriced and the tech that turns up for half a day is not particularly helpful and is very possessive over who can have what access (eg 3 weeks to get password to allow staff to install drivers for home printer!) to the point that he's being obstructive*. As its a small school there is no in-house tech expertise which is why I've been asked to help. We've organised introduction meetings with 2 other local managed service providers and initial impressions are much better and quotes are less for more service. We're contacting other schools in the area that use these providers for references. With so little of the new 3 yr contract used we think its going to be cheaper in the long run to get out of the new contract and start a new contract with one of the alternatives. Anyone got any experience of this or know what options are available? Thanks ChrisJ * eg not releasing server admin password which we asked for so we could access server console to get its specification and get free disk space stats in order to spec up an upgrade/replacement/alternative. They came out with some bull story about Data protection Act (you can't let them see the server or they will have access to all your students home details and your staff records etc) and put the frighteners on senior staff so they ended up not wanting to let anyone else see the server either!

So I just got a call from BT offering me a £2 a month reduction on the cost of my broadband plus extra online storage and unlimited wifi... All I had to do was agree to a 12 month contract from today. Sounds like the normal sort of thing companies do doesn't it? The only thing is, I agreed to an 18 month contract only 2 months ago... So this new contract effectively reduces my minimum term by 4 months, and reduces the amount I'm paying... Seems pretty good to me!

This is obviously not for everyone but I know there are some experienced project managers in our midst, an ideal chance to get a long contract in BSF implementation and managed service delivery.... I can't go into details as to who it is but I welcome cv's to [email protected] Paid on a daily basis and depending on experience around £300-340 per day Implementation Project Manager –initial 6th month contract Implementation Project Manager required for an IT company involved in the BSF programme. You will have a hands on PM background, flexibility as the projects demand, Prince 2 certification, an in-depth knowledge of either Education or the wider PFI market, excellent understanding of ICT again ideally within the education sector. Hi Everyone, I work as a technician across 2 primary schools. Over the summer we had a Citrix solution installed so staff can access school resources remotely. The school have asked me I'd be on call over school hols, I'm happy to do this but I think there should be financial reward. Does anyone agree and if so how much should I ask for. Also as I'm between mobile phones should they provide a mobile phone? Maybe even pay for my home broadband? Currently I'm configuring server alerts if the alerts are sent to me does this also mean extra responsibility and therefore greater financial reward? Many thanks

Hi all I'm contemplating getting a new contract phone with HSPDA and support to be used as a modem on the move (and to be free from the constraints of filters etc if need be at work). I've seen a couple of OK deals, but I am near clueless when it comes to phones unfortunately. The best I found was the LG Arena with t-mobile giving a 7.2mbit/s, though this and all other contracts seem to have tight data caps and all sorts - things I'd like to avoid. So any recommendations? I'd prefer a phone where I don't have to be constrained to *just* a touch screen, though it's browsing and data capabilities I'm most bothered by. Like I said, I'm not too hot on phones so any advice would be fantastic. Cheers.
