I would hope the aim to not only be sharing ideas, but, if we can get the LA there, to find out what's happening with LA services, and hopefully so we can give feedback to the LA. If we can group together with our concerns about LA services, or our compliments on them, there may be a greater response from the LA than just individual NMs making comments. Cheers

I've got top 10 blocked sites report. Left hand side of the netsweeper interface there's some reports stuff I think.

I've checked the servers (need to try to find docs from install), can can't find WCS anywhere. The setup is the 4402, a load of LAP1131AG and 2x LAP1242AG. I'll have a check with the LA this week to find out some info (they installed both our wired and wireless networks), I'd still like to find a supplier to help out though, so any suggestions, I'd be grateful!

From the looks of it, heat maps are part of WCS, I can't find them at all on the controller. It's hopefully fairly obvious that I'm not experienced with Cisco Wireless, or large wireless deployments - hence wondering if there's any Cisco wireless people about who could come and take a look for me. I think most of our APs we can't do anything to the antenna, but we could probably get a couple more which would allow external antenna (sure the plural's spelt differently, but it's Sunday). I'll try netstumbler etc over the next week (once I've worked out how to use my Phone as external GPS for laptop), and go from there. Cheers

Although a bit overkill... I'd suggest a php script on a web server accessing and querying the file (you can use ntlm to pass the username from client to server automatically), returning HTML which you can use as an active background. Should keep the file secure (as long as you sensibly hide it on the server, or you could take it a step further and stick it in a DB). Cheers Will

The above is invaluable advice... I only just spotted it, and moved 2 colour printers to using their PCL manufacturer drivers. We're using an accounting method which calls pkpgcounter directly, which was previously having to use GS to process the documents (and was taking ages). Now it all passes through insanely quickly, hopefully that will make the teachers happier!

Hi, We've got a Cisco wireless network based around a 4402 controller (I think, it's Friday morning and my brain's fried). We're lacking coverage in some areas - quite significantly, and having installed VoIP with some wireless handsets we need to look at sorting this issue out. So... a two fold question: 1) Does anyone know a good wireless network installation/survey/consultancy company in the East Mids who deals with predominantly Cisco kit? 2) Does anyone have a suggestion of another solution? Possibly mix in some other kit (Ruckus?)? We can't replace the entire network as it's less than 2 years old and the Governors would have kittens, puppies and chicks if I suggested that! Cheers Will

We use insight as well. Very good service, and very helpful. Had a conference call with one of their licensing guys the other day to work our way through licensing requirements for App-V - very informative. Also, our account manager there is ace! (best price I've found as well for licensing)

Do you have per user or per device licensing? From what I understand from my discussions with our Licensing provider, you should already have licensing in place for the published server to allow people to access remotely - either per device or per user. Your best bet would be to chat to the people you buy your licensing off, and work out with them what you need. Edit: Also, what CALs do you currently have in place, and who will need to access the services (staff, students, external parties)?

From the sounds of it, this may be what you're looking for: Understanding and using the External Associated Account in Windows Server 2003 and Exchange 2003 The other thing I would consider doing is looking towards merging your admin and curric domains - it's something we've done here, and it makes administration and numerous other things a lot easier. There are some guides around as to how to do it (search for one school one network in google), and ADMT makes things fairly simple with regards to moving both User accounts and Computers across (you can also then free up some tin for other things, or energy savings or many other things). Hi, I've got securus running on most of our network, apart from our TSs. I've done the registry jiggerypokery (ie server IP), but when logging on, a single copy of securusn.exe runs (I think from other machines 2 copies end up running), the update.exe and update.dll files in the securusclient directory go to 0 byte files, and securus doesn't come up. I've spoken to Securus support who suggest I need to get the read only flag off the securusclient directory, but I can't get it shifted. Has anyone else got this setup working? Anyone have any ideas as to what I could try to get it to work? Any help greatly appreciated! Cheers Will

1U servers I've always managed to do by myself (also used to tube across london with 1U server...), and I also did our robotic tape library and 2U SAN without difficulty (just remove as many removeable parts as possible to reduce weight). I did struggle with the 3U UPS on my own... but it can be done... just plan your rack for the weight (UPS at bottom, so it's more tilting it up than lifting). As the the kit in question, the best question is - would you feel confident and comfortable with fitting the rails, then lifting and fitting the server? If you're not, then get some help in. It may be that after seeing it being done, you'll be more confident for the next time you need to rack something up.

Hi All, We have a Panasonic PT-LC55E with burn on one of the polarising plates (I think it's the red one). I've spoken to Panasonic spares, and got a cost of about 45 quid (from memory, left it on paper at the office), which is a tad expensive for such a small part (the green and blue are even more expensive). Just wondering if anyone knows of another source for the part, or knows of a way of creating or fixing the part. The part number is TENC0129. Any help gratefully received. Will

Oh, from the looks of it, your MSA2000 is the ISCSI variant with dual controllers, which is good for recundancy. I'd suggest using 2 switches, with 1 port from each controller connected to each switch to keep things fully redundant. How many NICs/ports have your DL380G5s got?

I am slightly bemused by what has been spec'd. The MSA60 is a DAS (direct attached storage) device (not NAS, as it's not really networked), so would only be connected to one server. It's also significantly smaller than data that may be backed up, and is attached to one server, so couldn't be stored elsewhere for DR backup type reasons, do you have a tape backup library? This would mean the MSA60 would be for D2D backups, and have tape for full weekly backups (using the MSA as incremental/differential backup storage). If not, something 'interesting' has been spec'd. I've got one of the MSA2012FCs (the fibre channel version), with no DAS and backing up direct to tape. The only thing I'd consider adding to this is a NAS to do D2D backup, DAS would only really beat this in speed (but NAS is relatively quick access compared to tape, and can be placed remotely, so would be suitable for DR). I'd suggest contacting the LEA and see if they can put you in contact with the suppliers, from my experience, the LEA guys don't work out the system, they get the supplier's hardware team to do that, so they may be able to help. I think that's where I got the preauth to stop (though it may have been something within the TS settings - can't quite remember). I ended up going with the Axel thin clients, and they're lovely! Been on here a while, so should probably introduce myself: I'm Will Ottewell, ICT Network Manager at a Catholic School in Nottinghamshire, which had, until November last year, had some years of "just keeping it running" rather than developing the network. We currently have a 2003 domain running on 2k8 DCs (going to be moving over to 2k8 domain shortly), have quickly implemented some virtualisation, have just done some thin client work and am in the middle of installing a new phone system. I've got an MEng in Cybernetics from Reading, but haven't done any of the recognised IT quals (yet). However, I spent a year working for a small IT firm in London as their Support/Deployment manager, and built a High Availability Hosted Exchange infrastructure for them (with BES), learned and worked with Asterisk PBX, and did a load of stuff with Linux (including rebuilding and reconfiguring a Hobbit box, whilst assessing Nagios at the same time - for what was required, Hobbit was a better fit for them), so think the experience counts! I'm more than happy to pass on anything useful I know, and sometimes dabble slightly in code (currently trying to sort out a multithreaded server program with client so I can do logon tracking ) So that's a quick about me... and a "Hello"
