@bossman, that's the link I passed to them on the other thread - from what I understand they've only set D4 on PDC and D2 on the other DCs (however the other DC seemed to have been the one causing issues). I wonder (from the dcdiag) whether one or more of the FSMO roles have gone from the PDC and this is then causing issues with that starting (and sorting its FRS/NETLOGON), as the other DC is not working correctly, so not providing the FSMO roles. The advertising bit of the DCDIAG is interesting - could you do a dcdiag /v to see if we can get more info on the advertising bit as that may give some clues. Cheers Will

Do you have any Windows Event logs relating to FRS and NETLOGON? If so, what do they contain? Also, can you do a "netdom query FSMO", this should show all the FSMO role holders that it sees - I wonder if some of the roles got transferred to the second DC, and then as that was failing, it's caused a knock on effect. Have you checked DNS settings on the NICs and that you have correct _SRV records in DNS? Is DNS Server running? Are you able to ping your domain from a workstation (ie ping prentonhigh.local)? Cheers Will

Probably DNS, would assume that you're DHCP'd in which case the DNS server may have not been updated by DHCP/registration of client, or the client may not be on, and another client has grabbed the last IP address registered with DNS for the machine you're trying to connect to.

Is DNS running OK on your PDC? Is DNS pointed to the right place in NIC settings?

Backup exec presumes you don't have everything on one server - over multiple servers it can work out cheaper... I wonder whether Windows Server Backup may do what you need (haven't looked into it, so can't say for definite - BE gives you granular backup/recovery, which I don't think WSB does, but do you need to be able to retrieve individual messages for exchange mailboxes?) Replication is 2 way, otherwise if you changed a GPO or other change on second DC it wouldn't occur on first. Maybe you could list what you've tried so far and we can give further guidance.

I believe what you want is SYVE11915, I can't be 100% certain as I ordered 12.5 licence and it upgraded when BE2010 came out. As you've only got the demo version, how many servers do you have on your site that you want to cover? You'll need to get the BE2010 Server licence (SYVE370) as well (this includes the agent for the machine running the server - as long as you don't need SQL or Exchange agent on that server)... I'll try to explain better... BE2010 Server for Windows (ie the main backup application) includes a Windows System Agent (usable on the BE2010 server machine) Each of the Additional agents (like SQL or Exchange) include the Windows System Agent. If you have one server which holds all files, runs Exchange and does the backup, you'll need the BE2010 server licence and an Exchange Agent Licence. If in doubt, check with the licensing folks at your suppliers (then you have some come back if they suggest the incorrect licence!) Cheers Will

Info below is a basis for further research - I did this research myself but based it on my system, so there may be things which affect your system which I don't know of! I had this issue a while ago, I'm fairly sure I resolved by doing the following (see link below), though I didn't record it at time - netlogon service wouldn't start for me on the DC either, may be worth checking for this. How to rebuild the SYSVOL tree and its content in a domain It's a bit of a brown pant moment... the data should still exist on the DC (I took a copy of the windows\sysvol folder as a just incase).

assuming you already have your main Backup Exec Server licence (ie the one for the machine which runs the backup job) then all you should need is a Backup Exec Exchange licence (as it includes the Backup Exec Windows Server bit)

Depends on the phone - quite a few of the "business" phones have inbuilt switch (which can quite often do VLANing as well).

Suggest you check out Fonality trixbox CE, an Asterisk-based PBX Phone System (formerly Asterisk@Home) | trixbox, AsteriskNOW | Asterisk or PBX in a Flash Simple installs and configs. If you have a spare old PC kicking around (possibly P4) then it should run for what you need (or virtualise it - I think there are some prebuilt virtual machines for some of them).

Localzuk reminded me about suppliers... we used voipon for our phones - got Doro phones, which appear to be rebadged snom's - as far as configuration goes they have pretty much the same options as the Snoms. Voipon may have had an offer on them, but they were about half the price that their website showed - certainly worth asking them for a quote (I think I'd asked for a general SIP phone) Cheers Will

Ours is internal and external - Centos, Asterisk 1.6, Freepbx and a bunch of SIP phones (including some Wifi) and soft phones. Centos, asterisk and freepbx can be found together in things like trixbox, and pbx-in-a-flash has something similar (and asterisknow). Setup asterisk, use freepbx to setup extension for each phone, setup phone to connect to pbx with extension details, start calling. Edit: oh, you can get Dect SIP phones (dect base station does IP bit, then phone to base station is dect) Cheers Will

gonzodad - do you happen to know if the SQL servers (MSSQL and MySQL) are on the web servers or on separate boxes. Interestingly our main website was slow/unloadable during the previous batch of snow (which is Joomla based and reliant on SQL), however I've dropped a static HTML page in place which loads fine every time (and usually quite quickly...).
