Random idea - could you create a new GPO targetted to that machine (and the user group required) with User Loopback on replace and replace the relevant bits or create the relevant environment for that machine? Cheers Will

Purchase all the hardware required for a CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) - not sure what you'd use it for, but it does have a certain wow factor - the racks of graphics processing equipment is impressive in itself! Other than that - a plexiglass box containing server racks with blades with some nice high end thin clients and lots of extra flashing LEDs on the servers...

Try changing overwrite protection to 5 days. If that works I'd also drop the B2D file size (with the whole backup going to a single file, if there's corruption that's the whole backup gone, multiple smaller files will mean some of the data would be in tact - I've got mine set to 10GB each - the backup job spans several files. For ease (and to not over complicate your GPO permissions) I'd create a new OU with the machines in, a group for the 6 students, have the machines in the OU and apply a new policy to domain computers and the user group which specifies just that individual GP setting (and user loopback processing). According to DG website, 50 users requires ~ 300MHz CPU and 96MB RAM - something like RouterStation Pro has 720MHz CPU and 128Mb RAM (and you're not likely to get 50 users on a home network), maybe what's needed is a slight rethink on router design to allow for some more RAM and higher CPU (the elonex ebook things with a 1GHz CPU and 256MB RAM sell for £150 - so surely some electronics/router manufacturer can build hardware with a significant amount of RAM a decent CPU and a decent amount of Flash storage for short term logs and configuration for less than that), or the start of a new device type - home wireless security gateways or something!

I don't think you can via IMAP (check this - Sharing Microsoft Outlook Calendar and Contacts) - If they're using Outlook 2007 to an Exchange server, is there any reason they're not using MAPI (ie the Microsoft made method for connecting to Exchange from Outlook)? If it's due to external use of Exchange, looking into VPN or RPC over HTTP(S) may be a solution. Cheers Will

Seems that yearly filtering cost is ~£150 with rough cost for the hardware ~£200-250, which may be out of the grasp of most home networks.

Although this may be a solution for techies, I have a feeling the Dos_Box has been asked in the sense of "what's available for Jo Bloggs, a parent at our school". A Squid server is an easy setup for a techy, but put a non-tech in front of a computer and see how they manage (also, it requires the user to have a space PC kicking around, so not totally free...)

Dependant on your net connection - if you're on cable (ie cable modem) you could have computers > wireless router > "gateway" filtering device (does routing as well) > cable modem > internet

I think the only thing I found close to it at present is packetprotector.org which requires putting a new firmware on one of the routers which is supported and then has DG and a full interface on it. Edit - I stand corrected - there are some which do filtering - they seem to be category types with subscriptions, no dynamic content filtering

That's per PC installation - I think Dos_Box was referring to a gateway type solution.

This was discussed in http://www.edugeek.net/forums/internet-related-filtering-firewall/67851-uk-adult-filter-2.html#post608615 I think we found that currently it's lacking (the suggestion being that routers aren't powerful enough for content filtering, or that kids would find out the passwords and circumvent).

Try and get it our of H&S budget (I think that's where mine came from) - afterall, without suitable seating you may end up with a back/knee/hip injury - better for H&S to spend money now rather than have to pay sick pay and get a temp in!

I remember when my new chair arrived... work stopped for the rest of the day while I adjusted all the settings on it, the re adjusted trying to find the nicest most comfortable position (then I played with the up, down, back and front things for a while, then had to spend more time readjusting!)
