Reading further into the Papercut manual it would seem I need a Keyboard Emulating Card Reader. I cannot find any info on whether the Omnikey 5422 is a keyboard emulating reader. Papercut do say that if it is a keyboard emulating card reader then just opening Notepad and swiping the card will show up the numbers in Notepad. If it doesn't it isn't keyboard emulating.

I should say I know the Card Reader works as I have tested it using the HID Workbench app.

That's what we use. Currently the number that the copiers recognise is in the Primary Card field in Papercut. I thought as we were using the same cards that the Omnikey would pick up the number and papercut would match it to the existing number in the Primary Card field. In the papercut logs its not even registering a swipe. On the Release Station after enabling Cards in the config file we get the below screen. The top input box appears after enabling Cards.

We have photocopiers with embedded card readers but I want to use a release station for a printer in a part of the school that has no copier. We have Omnikey 5422CL card readers that we use with our Cashless Catering System. We have 1K MiFare Cards that work with the canteen system (Biostore) and the Canon Copiers. I know the Omnikey will read the cards but it reads them in HexiDecimal. Papercut displays a Decimal number so I wanted to know if I can program the spare OmniKey Card Reader to read in Decimal for Papercut to recognise the number? Is it possible?

Are there any issues with re-imaging machines that have been used to encrypt?

That is what we are trying to do hence why we wanted it set to not allow them to encrypt so they had to bring it to us. Usually that would discourage the majority.

Yeh, may have to have a rethink on that now that we are Windows 10. With the backing up of keys to AD are there any gotchas?

I think I have worked out why. ON Windows 7 Pro users didn't have the ability to encrypt so the popup did nothing. On Windows 10 if I enable "Allow users to apply Bitlocker protection on removable data drives" then Windows 10 users get the popup too but are then able to encrypt. Ideally I would want the popup but not the ability for users to encrypt. Looks like I can't have that.

We don't want them to be able to encrypt the drives themselves. We want them to see the warning as they could on Windows 7 then bring the USB to us to encrypt. Control use of Bitlocker on removable drives is enabled

We do have separate GPOs but I have checked and the settings are exactly the same. The only difference is that when we had Windows 7 we had Professional which you couldn't use to encrypt anyway. Now we have Windows 10 Education where I believe users can encrypt if we allowed them to. Control Panel is blocked for users.

When we had Windows 7 we had enabled BitLocker for portable drives and each time a user inserted a USB drive into the PC they would get a warning to say the USB needed to be encrypted if it wasnt. With Windows 10 that message no longer appears. I can insert a non-bitlockered USB and see the contents but when I try to write to it I get "disk is write-protected". There is no mention of Bitlocker. How can I get the messaging back please? edit: I should add that we do not allow users to encrypt the drives themselves. They have to bring them to IT Support for us to do it.

Just demoted a 2008 R2 server, dcpromo went fine but on logging back in all the AD components are still there, in AD it has gone from domain controllers container. It's still there in sites and services but no ntds settings under it. Anyone seen this behaviour before?

No Cambium WiFi users on Edugeek?

We have just purchased Cambium for our Primary School. Was wondering if there is an easy way for us to provide access to Reception Staff to generate Guest WiFi Vouchers? Being new to the system I cant find a user role that is just for Voucher Generation. I have found the Mobile App but I cant expect Reception Staff to download that onto their personal devices in order to generate vouchers. How do you do it?

We have had Powerchute Network Shutdown installed on a Windows 2012 R2 Server for a few years. Just upgraded the install to the latest Powerchute Network Shutdown version and now it won't run. It runs in the browser (ie11) and all we get is "This page can't be displayed". The Powerchute favicon appears in the browser tab title so it is trying to open. any ideas please?

Got a UPS Status Smart-UPS SRT 5000 which is showing me "Battery near end of life. Order replacement battery, APCRBC140, for the internal pack, cartridge 1" On the Web UI it shows Internal Pack and Battery Pack 1. It is the Internal Pack that is showing as needing replacement. I ordered the battery pack and when looking at the UPS there are 4 cartridges when you open the front panel. I assume that one set of 2 will be the Internal Pack and 2 will be "Battery Pack 1" ? Changed one set of 2 with the new ones. No change to the message, still says needs replacement. Swapped them back again and put the new ones in where the other 2 were but still it says needs replacement. I have run a self test after the swap too which comes back as passed. Am I missing something here? I thought these batteries were hot swappable.
