login scripts are run as users as well as logoff scripts. By default users have read access to the system32 directory and using a login script will not allow normal users to write here. What you can do is set the script at computer startup to run. Copy the scr file to the sysvol/netlogon share or leave where it is now as this is not the issue, Then you can use a GPO to set the screensavev options, Win 7 - User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Personalization: Force specific screen saver Windows XP - User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Display Using GPO preferences will allow a user to change screensaver, if you want to enforce then use the above. @nathan - What if an email is deleted after your dumpster limit and you want to recover. For this reason you still need backups. Sure you can restore an email from tape, but ideally you would want to recover within 30mins-1hr. So I think backups are still critical if you want email recovery within your RTO/RPO. Again, is you have a site failure and it's acceptable to the school then yes, don't bother with a DR site, just ensure your school is aware of that. Or you can go to the clould which has benefits or have a mix of cloud and on-premise. It really depends if email is critial or not and what loss/downtime is acceptable. In terms of Virtual supprt, I was referring to the below http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996719.aspx Sukh

Hi Not sure really. It depends on your requirements from both the functional and non functional view. Some staff may have a requirement for large home areas which may be genuine, others may be abusing this. Might be worth maybe keeping an eye on content in home areas instead. If you have the space then no issues, if not then introduce a business policy, if staff still don't adhere to it , force the policy using technology. For those staff that need extra space make an exception, however some staff may think of reasons to get additional space. Need to get agreement with school and tell them either we need to enforce policy or need to purchase more storage to meet needs. If you can't get more storage then do some calculations on your current storage and then calculate quotos for staff. You can only work with what you have. Sukh

Group Policy Problem - Filtering: Not Applied (empty)
sukh replied to FN-GM's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Hi On a PC when you run the GPresults is the policy being applied? Is it being applied to any PC or not running at all? Sukh -
Hi If you dont have a pre-staged computer account for the pc, then it will use a naming policy. If this is not configured then it will use a automatic naming policy. This is what your are experiencing. "The automatic naming policy is based on the user's name and adds an incremental number to ensure that the computer name is unique. The settings on this tab will be applied when using the Pending Devices policy to create a computer account and when using the Windows Deployment Services client to create a computer account." Sukh

2008R2 DC profile issues with my XP clients
sukh replied to techie2008's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
@Techie2008 - How sure are you that this issue only occurs when users autheticate against the 2008R2DC? What makes you believe this? Are there any errors in the Event Log on the client or 2008R2 Server? If you pick one user are you able to recreate the issue? Can you enable client side logging and reproduce the issue. On an affected client computer, use Registry Editor to add the following registry value (or modify it, if the value already exists): Value Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Value Name: UserEnvDebugLevel Value Type: REG_DWORD Value Data: 10002 (Hexadecimal) Can you collect the logs and post/PM? (%SystemRoot%\Debug\UserMode\Userenv.log) Sukh -
Hi I have not used Deep Freeze but to replace this with AV does not protect your PC. If Deep Freeze prevents changes by worms.virus etc...then I can ensure you that many companies would deploy this. I have never come across a company who would remove their AV for such a product. AV is not pain to manage. All products have pros/cons be it Symantec/Sophis/MSFT endpoint etc...I have deployed AV for companies in excess of 50,000 desktop and is managed quite well. And you are right, website filtering and poor AV configurations allow such incidents. It's critical that you have AV on your computers. What issues do you have with AV deployment? Sukh

Hi Is this issue specific for Safe Mode only, i.e can you login to Windows normally? What did you try with chkdsk? chkdsk /f? Sukh

@x-13 - Yes that is correct and from the description it is more likely a server rule, in this case will need to to use /cleanrules. (Could not remember the exact switch from memory). This will however delete all server side and client side rules, you cannot use this to delete a specific rule from Outlook. Even though you could, it would be hard to accomplish all the time without deleting the others as identifying the specific rule can be difficult and does not prevent the users from creating another one with different logics/descriptions.
