  1. I've been asked by our head of Computer Science to look into solutions for teaching "Mobile App Development". I've had a look at Xamarin and Android Studio which he suggested but both seem to have issues with the huge Android SDK being installed in each user profile. So can anyone suggest a better bit of software or cloud system to teach building apps?
  2. I think that's probably a good thing! There is a reason Sims 8 was never released.... They should start again like a startup. Use the latest frameworks and technology. Release early and often.
  3. They enforce it with a "certified for Windows 11" sticker on new machines, just like previous versions. It doesn't apply to current computers, only new ones sold.
  4. Almost universal praise in the comments, really good job I think by Microsoft. Now we just need those explorer tabs and image preview
  5. All of our PC's here are Generation 7 intel and above, so should theoretically work. Lets see how it goes.
  6. New settings app confirmed then! Looks great.
  7. We had absolutely no issue on that front. Bromcom did webinars for each job type and people moved without issue. In fact a lot of stuff is easier on Bromcom, especially things like the census and attendance. Timetabling can stay the same process if needed.
  8. It is well known the Capita ran Sims into the ground and stripped all their development teams. It was part of Capita's strategy in their yearly financial reports for a long while to outsource and offshore. The new company may have good intentions but why stay with them now? It seems they are just starting developing again. How many more years will schools wait? Having done the move away from Sims ourselves and waiting so long, I can't believe how easy it was to launch a new MIS. Literally took a couple of weeks and all our data was ported to the new MIS.
  9. Sounds like the TPM 2.0 thing is so that Windows hello technologies are guaranteed to work. Most PC's from 2016 have one installed apparently.
  10. I'm pretty sure people who got the first telephones in their house thought it was creepy and wierd. Personally I think its a great idea, video comms that "just work"
  11. Even though we moved to Bromcom, Sims sent us a Feedback survey about their current direction and future products. Definitely worth letting them know the disappointment at a lack of web release here: https://bit.ly/SIMSsurvey I did!
  12. I've also been looking at this as it would be good to get rid of the local server at some point, but am in as much the dark as you so far. Not seen anyone actually doing it yet.
  13. If anyone is into BBQ'ing then this is a good deal on a temperature sensor, although at has been this price before a few times recently. MEATER Plus | 50m Long Range Smart Wireless Meat Thermometer for The Oven Grill Kitchen BBQ Smoker Rotisserie with Bluetooth and WiFi Digital Connectivity: Amazon.co.uk: Garden & Outdoors EDIT: Oh dear, price seems to have gone back up now. No good Alternative still at a good price Inkbird Meat Thermometer Bluetooth Wireless BBQ Thermometer ℉/℃ with 1000mAh Rechargeable Battery Rotatable Screen for Barbecue Meat Oven Grill Smoker (BBQ Thermometer + 4 Temperature Sensors): Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home
  14. Yeh it's something that has been missing for a long time, but I did hear that explorer was getting an update as well to look more like SharePoint web browsing file layout. Thats a good thing in my opinion as i'm so used to using SharePoint now, it really is much nicer and more spaced out.
  15. Windows 11 thread Windows 11 (edugeek.net)
  16. Yeh strange one really, needs consistency and the Windows 10 settings are awful
  17. And possibly the settings app Windows Upcoming Redesign May Finally Include a New Settings App - ExtremeTech
  18. So here it is folks! Features - New centralised start menu - Rounded edges - New startup Sound - User Profile in settings - Widgets - Window Snapping - New Microsoft Store Windows 11 leak reveals new UI, Start menu, and more - The Verge EDIT: End of windows 10 thread here for some more discussion on end dates and support.
  19. If you have ubiquity switches you can check the load at any one time on the management interface. If certain clients are causing an issue why not limit their connection speeds in some way? Perhaps on the wireless controller?
  20. How exciting!!
  21. Why not just use the sync feature in sharepoint? Should be no need to map the drives any more with that feature.
  22. Well ours is about 200gb and just times out. I've not found a solution yet, Guessing splitting it down from 1 huge team to smaller ones will help.
  23. Yes thats what we did. Our whole staff team has the shared area. Its nice because they can click on the "Files" link on teams and go direct to the share. One thing to plan for though is backing it up, I have not had any success backing up the entire shared drive using Veeam 365 as its simply to large now. My plan is to move department areas out of the main share and into their own teams over time.
  24. Get rid of the SAN and go cloud storage.
  25. A good roundup of the new features here: https://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10-sun-valley-features-everything-we-know
