I got rid of our school fax machines and fax lines many moons ago! One of the first things I removed when I started here. It doesnt suprise me that the NHS is slugging behind and still uses them. The amount of paper records and old systems still in use is alarming!

Other possibility: Ask the Mrs if she wants a 3some with the Dalek to spice things up?!

Advantages: - You could go to shows and charge people to have a photo with a Dalek. Nice money maker. - Your wife will be glad you have something to do / a dalek to talk to. - You will have hours of fun with it so it will keep you off the streets. - It is cheaper than owning kids or a dog - You will be protected from any future alien invasion. Dissadvantages: - It doesnt pay your energy bills so check you can afford it. - Someone might steal it. - Your wife might think it is more important than her.

I'd definately class that as an essential purchase. Do what I did when I bought part of a Boeing 747 and say you won it in a competition!

A little over the top I think! I completly understand that a dog can have a very positive effect on children. They are calming, they teach caring and responsability, etc. However, they arent the only way to make an autistic childs life better. We have already made several adjustments which are making life a lot better and school are adpting the way he learns. This has been very positive and I am thankful to the SENCO at our school that has helped immensely. It is not me who wants to go on my own adventures. I like to take my children on holidays and adventures away. We recently went away to Scotland and my autistic son had an amazing time, fasicnated by nature, and loved every minute. In fact he is actively drawing maps and researching places he wants to discover next, currently wanting to go abroad. Travel broadens the mind in many ways. Assuming my children are stuck behind iPads is a little bit rude! They actually have their own rabbits and regularly help clean them, feed them, and look after them...... but maybe that doesnt count for you as it isnt a dog!

They are those huge mountain rescue dogs with the little whiskey barrel round their necks aren't they? You have the dog, I'll have the whiskey barrel.

Hopefully I am not killed off and I will return here tomorrow. Or worse, she kills me off and feeds me to the new dog.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm hoping she is realising what it entails. I think she's been going over for a few coffee morings with the neighbours and got puppy loved up. Falling for their cuteness and not seeing the bigger picture.

Thanks all. One of my children has recently been diagnosed with autism and she thinks this will make this magically better for him. I won't deny that dogs can make great company, are calming, a good responsability and encourage interaction with children..... HOWEVER.... We have three children (7 year old and 6 year old twins), life is demanding as it is with swimming, football practice at weekends, etc and I have said that as they grow up I want them to go on adventures and plan trips abroad. This will all be restricted with a dog. She says this breed (Cokapoo) dont malt and are clean and playful, don't bark but someone tell me one dog that has never made a mess, or trashed a house in some way? Yeah right! Yes this breed maybe don't malt so less messy but still hard work! Still needing a walk each day, will still be scratching at the door in the mornings, will still poop everywhere! Not to forget that we have rabbits who will be petrified! She wants to keep it in the back kitchen and conservatory but no dog I've ever met will not want to discover the entire house and will probably end up in someones bed! Rant over. Just could do without this looming over.

NOTE: Kindly, all dog lovers, please move on to another thread. My wife has made the decision that she wants to get a puppy. I don't want one. In fact I could easily say I don't like dogs. Please list me some reasons to NOT get a dog! I need something to come back to her with. Thankyou.

Sounds like it all worked out well in the end. I'd be a little peev'd though that the business manager didnt fill you in on something that is clearly I.T. and that you should have a say on before a new printer magically appears.

Hi, I'm not too clued up on Apple Homekit devices and wondered how secure they are. I connect most of my other smart devices to a seperate isolated network so they cant access any other parts of my network. Homekit devices connect to my AppleTV. Should I be worried about these devices too? How does Homekit work? Are these "dumb" devices and Apple takes care of connectivity to the Internet? Thanks all.

I have new printers coming in a few weeks time so may just switch to deploying to computer instead of user. I believe this may solve it.

A teacher has asked if there is a way to make the childrens logins easier to remember and also easier to type as some find it harder to type the @ourdomain.co.uk Is there a login page that is specific to your domaimn so the user only has to put in their username and @ourdomain.co.uk will be filled in automatically? Or is there a way to make their login shorter? Thanks all.

So on a newly imaged machine an existing AD user account logs-in and gets the printer, but on a newly imaged machine a new AD user account logs in and gets nothing (presuming both users are in the same OU and users are members of all the same 'groups'). All in the same OU. All other policies being applied. Still seems like some kind of 'Permission/Security' issue somewhere because GP obviously tries to deploy the printer at least (as it appears as an error in Event Viewer). Back to basics... Do all the other GPOs apply correctly? Yes How are these printers deployed (in user configuration I presume)? Yes, they apply to the user via User Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Deployed Printers

I'm just wondering....Was there a previous version of Windows that possibly didnt have any issues pulling printers. maybe a UAC issue I read about ages ago and it wasnt a problem back then? But then actualluy what I'm sayng doesn't add up as old users log on to the new Windows machines and are getting the printers.

Just resurecting this as still stuck. Newly imaged Windows 10 desktops, Login with a new user. No printers being picked up via GPO. Login on the same machine with someone who was created several months ago and they pick up all the printers fine. So this makes me think I can rule out Windows and instead it is some sort of user issue. GP Result shows Mapped Ptrinters as one of the GPO's applied. Any ideas anyone? Thankyou.
