Thanks for your reply David. I have been through the event logs and the only common message on the affected machines appears to be "The Winlogon notification subscriber is taking a long time to handle the notification event (logoff)" The problem seems quite random and when the user logs off they get to the "Waiting for the User Profile service" screen or just the "Logging off" screen and then it just hangs for ages, often requiring a hard reboot of the PC. We do use roaming profiles and normally this doesn't cause us any issues. We are a single site. Our servers are Windows 2008R2 with Win 7 Pro desktops. This problem has just started since the Summer holidays. During the summer we virtualised some old file servers and moved many of the user work areas onto Windows 2008R2 virtual file servers which are connected via iSCSI to a QNAP NAS box. Not sure if that has had any effect? I have checked all of the user folder permissions etc. and everything looks ok and as I have mentioned, the problem seems quite random and isn't affecting everyone! Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated. Cheers - Andrew

We are experiencing a slow logoff problem with some users on our Windows 7 PCs. When a user logs off their logoff 'hangs' and takes ages to complete (if it ever does). The user logoff seems to stall at the Waiting for the User Profile Service message and often requires a hard reboot of the PC to get out of the loop! Anyone seen this problem/found a fix please? Cheers - Andrew

Ours is still ok at the moment, no problems. It may just be you. Anyone else got any problems? Andrew -
Northern Grid/BT broadband outage!

yes, we do as well. Thank goodness! However, from the emails we have received from Northern Grid/BT, it sounds like they are still not sure what caused the problems!!! Worrying. Andrew -
Northern Grid/BT broadband outage!
adhutton replied to adhutton's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We seem to be getting an improved connection within the last hour or so. I believe that BT may be taking down the broadband connection completely between 1pm and 2pm today to do further testing. Will update if I hear any more (and still have a connection!). Andrew -
Northern Grid/BT broadband outage!
adhutton replied to adhutton's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We are getting some Internet, but very, very slow and non-responsive/dropping-out. Is that what everyone else is experiencing or are some areas off all together (don't expect a reply if the latter, but thought someone with a connection might know!). Andrew -
We got new BT broadband via Northern Grid installed over the Summer and its been terrible since Monday! Bad/slow connection with regular timeouts and missing content etc..... BT phoned me this afternoon to say they had escalated our problems to a BT 'major incident' as more than 200 schools are having the same problems! I knew the move to BT wasnt going to go well! Havent heard a single thing from Northern Grid themselves. Feels like being on a crashing plane with no word from the cockpit....): Anyone else affected or heard anything from BT/NGFL? Andrew

We have tried all of the fixes listed, but still have the problem. Anyone else got any ideas? This is driving me mad.....!!!! Andrew

We deploy it using an Autoit script. As far as I know, it cannot be done via an MSI. Andrew

[ipad] Apple Configurator problem - cannot remove iPad profile.
adhutton replied to adhutton's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Yes, very similar I think. We ended up having to reset the iPad to get rid of the profile. Not an ideal situation!!! Andrew -
I will give those a try and let you know. Many thanks. Andrew

We have a technician who can do a superb South African accent and whenever one of our regular 'base-touchers' calls we put him on the phone and he gives them the runaround in his immaculate SA accent... We do have a laugh! Andrew

Thanks John. I am really surprised that nobody else on here seems to have anything to contribute, considering this seems to be a pretty big issue for lots of people. The problem really annoys me, and is now starting to significantly annoy our users! This post on Technet has over 250 responses to an ongoing issue which MS haven't yet fixed! (I found it whilst looking for a solution)... Windows Explorer doesn't refresh when moving/deleting If anyone else has experienced the problem or has found a permanent/temporary fix then we would really like to hear about it, thanks. Andrew

We are having a problem on our Windows 7 PCs with file and folder refresh.... When a user deletes a file/folder or creates a new file/folder in either Windows Explorer or on their desktop, the view does not refresh immediately and the user has to either press F5 or close the window and then open it again to see any changes. This is causing problems with some users as they are creating new folders and nothing appears to happen, so they try it again..and again..and again.... Eventually when the view refreshes, there are several new folders sitting there!!!! The affected drives are network, mapped drives and reside on a (Windows 2003) file server. I have Googled this already and it seems to be a known Win7/Server 2008 problem, but at the moment I can't find a suitable fix!!! Has anyone seen this problem or know of a working fix please? Cheers_ Andrew

I have tried to delete the Spotify folder using GPP, but can't seem to get it to work. Do you have that solution in place? If so, what options did you use in the GPP? Cheers- Andrew

Apparently, they don't need Admin rights to install Spotify!!! Andrew

We have discovered, this week, that Windows 7 users can install software such as Spotify and Chrome without any restriction on Windows 7 PCs. We naturally have installation of .exe files restricted on the C:\ drive and in Home directories, but they can still install via a USB memory stick, as the install rights listed in group policy only work against software using windows installer. When installing Spotify (on a Win 7 PC) it doesn't need any registry settings and installed to C:\users\user\appdata\local\spotify, it doesn't need to install in the C:\program files... Has anyone encountered this problem/found a fix please? Cheers_ Andrew

[ipad] Apple Configurator problem - cannot remove iPad profile.
adhutton replied to adhutton's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Yes, that did catch me out at first, but after unlocking it still cannot remove the supervision profile. Just get a 'connecting' message and then nothing happens. Tried all the usual stuff (rebbooting Mac, ipad etc....) but nothing.... Bloody Apple rubbish...... Any way of removing profile from the ipad without connecting to the Mac?? Andrew -
Any CachePilot experts out there? We have a teacher who has managed to get herself 'banned' on her classroom PC by our CachePilot! (she claims she was only looking at educational stuff!). She can access the Internet from any other school PC, but when on her own classroom PC she gets a strange 'Banned' error message that I have never seen before. The CachePilot is clearly referencing the IP address on her classroom PC, but I am not sure how to reset this issue/ban??? I don't have a lot of CP experience, and cannot seem to find the right place to fix the problem on the CP menu. Can anyone help please? Cheers_ Andrew

We recently set up a few iPads using the Apple Configurator on a Macbook. These have gone in to use and one of our Teachers has filled his iPad up with photos and vids. When he plugs it in to a Windows (7) PC it is recognised by the PC but he cannot see any of the photos or videos and hence he cannot transfer them off the iPad.! After a bit of messing about I realised this problem was being caused by the 'Apple Supervision Profile' on the iPad, so I tried to remove the profile (i.e. un-supervise the iPad) via the Macbook. Needless to say, that failed (in true Apple style!!) and now I cannot remove the profile...aaaghhhh!!! Does anyone know how to remove a Supervision profile from an iPad (manually)??? Cheers_Andrew
