I found this on the MST Software site, which may help anyone with CISCO switches: "It is possible by setting up on a cisco device: ON THE SENDING SUBNET ip helper-address SUBNET-BROADCAST-ADDRESS ie 192.168.1.255 // This turns the 255.255.255.255 lanview broadcasts to a directed broadcast IN GLOBAL CONFIG ip forward-protocol udp 2607 ip forward-protocol udp 2104 // This allows the IP helper address to forward broadcast UDP packets on those ports create an ACL for filtering so only wanted directed broadcasts are forwarded: access-list 110 permit udp host LANVIEWSERVERIP any eq 2607 access-list 110 permit udp host LANVIEWSERVERIP any eq 2104 on the recieving subnet ip directed-broadcast 110 On a layer 3 switch these are applied to the VLAN interfaces. And DONE! PS Dont blame me if you break stuff!" Please let me know if anyone has any other info. for CISCO switches. Andrew

I know what the secret password is (I think)...I just don't know how to enter it correctly. Every attempt has been rejected so far or thrown an error! What is the correct syntax for the command? Andrew -

Thanks for the info. That sounds very radical and something I would not feel confident in doing at present, just in case it 'breaks' lots of other stuff which I then will struggle to fix! It may be my 'last resort' so I will hold that info. for now...cheers. Andrew -
Can anyone help me configure my CISCO Catalyst 3560G switch please?
adhutton replied to adhutton's topic in Wired Networks
I can log in via Telnet, but the enable password I have won't work. I have read somewhere that if Secret enable is turned on then the standard enable password does not work (???). It may sound silly, but I don't know how to proceed with the secret enable password. I have tried the obvious like typing secret enable and pressing enter, but it doesnt work and just gives me an error... Any ideas? I will read the other help documents which people have posted in the meantime. Cheers_ Andrew -
I have inherited a CISCO Catalyst 3560G switch which I need to configure. I need to change two Ip Helper-Addresses on two VLANs. However, I am actually having trouble logging on to the switch to make the changes..! Before we start, I have to say that I know very little about CISCO switches (going on a CISCO CCNA course in September to better understand them). I have the Telnet password and can login to the switch. However, that is where I am getting stuck. There seems to be an Enable and a Secret Enable password in our book, but neither will work and I cannot gain the necessary access to make the changes. Can anyone help/advise please? Cheers _Andrew

We've had this a few times.... I've reported it to Microsoft but they didn't seem able to fix it! Some days connected mail arrives every hour and at other times it can take days. The whole 'Connected Accounts' function seems to be broken. The only way I found to get around the problem was to delete the connected account. Log out of Live@Edu, log back in and re-connect the external account then it starts to work again (for a while). A real pain! Andrew

Remember to put .NET framework V4 (extended) on your new server as future SIMS releases will need it. Andrew

The only down side to leasing, in my opinion, is the massive amount of time you have to spend every 3 or 4 years (usually during the 6 weeks hols.) removing hundereds of old computers and then unpacking and re-installing hundreds of new ones, joining them to your domain etc.... I have done it once and it took 5 of us nearly the whole of the six weeks to do! All of that process adds some extra cost to your overall lease fees. Take a look at these photos and you will get an idea of the scale of the task..... http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1103965915472.2015857.1116467581&l=41b4eaa38b Andrew

They aren't pass-through ones. The Ebuyer Extra Value model still lets you use the plug for something else which at home is very useful. A

Not sure you will be able to find anything like that, but if anyone does such a lead I would say it might be Lindy Give them a try - HDMI Cables | USB Cables | FireWire Cables | AV Cables | KVM Switch Andrew

Thanks for your continued help, but unfortunately that didn't work for us either... Andrew

Thanks for the info., but that option does not appear to exist in IE8...only in IE9 Andrew

The DAME thing on the report is a bug. Run your SIMS Solus update and there should be a patch which fixes that issue. We did ours last week. Andrew

We have a couple of users who are complaining that their IE8 Favorites are running really slow and are causing a serious lag when moving the mouse. I've verified this problem does exist, but only seems to affect the folders within Favorites when the user clicks the gold Favorites star (on the browser menu bar) and then moves the mouse over the folders. I thought this may be due to the Favorites being re-directed to a Network share, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Anyone seen this problem or know of a fix? I have looked in all of the usual places for a fix and have drawn a blank at the moment.. Any advice/help welcomed. Andrew

Its easy enough to get into the Sky management pages on the router. What isn't so easy is knowing your Sky broadband connection Username and Password. Sky don't tell you as they are 'hard-coded' into the Sky router. However, they are based on the mac address of the router.... Just do a Google search and you will find a few sites which will help you to find them. Also, if you ask the Sky advisers on the phone they will often tell you them..! Once you have your connection ID and password you can then use any wireless broadband router to connect to Sky BB. It's against their T&C's....so that's your own decision if you want to make the change to another wireless router:) Andrew

I have been trying to get this to work, but with not a lot of success... However, what I have been able to get working is to have two network cards in my PC. One card is on the main LAN and the other card is plugged in to our VLAN. That allows me to toggle between network connections and to view the two sets of machines (separately) via Lanview4. This, of course, is only any good if you only have a single VLAN, as multiple VLANS would require multiple additional network cards and connections to your PC. Not ideal, but it is working ok for me at the moment. Just thought I would share... Have you been able to find any other solutions to the VLAN issue? Andrew

Live@Edu please can you help?

Check your Live@Edu admin screens - there is an import template you need to use, so you get it in the correct format. A -
We are using Live@Edu which, in the main, is very good. However, some of our users are receiving corrupt or garbled emails from some senders (mainly from local councils). Please see the example below. LIVE@EDU_Corrupt-Emails_Example.pdf Has anyone seen this problem before or know of any solution? I have spoken to Microsoft technical support who think it may be caused by an email filter at the senders end, but I am not so sure. Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks. Andrew
